That would make 3 clubs in 4 seasons if true, that's a fair few for a young lad. I reckon he is only about 17.

Havent heard that myself but i also havent spoke to the young lads at the club who he is more than likely mates with.

Eastern Park have definatly not chased the young lad but obviously if his mates with some of our guys thats where the rumour comes from.

Maybe Lightning knows a bit more.

Yes, Lightning does know of the story, yes he's mates with a few of them, he got on the gas with them after their U/18 footy GF, it's a bit of an impulsive decision IMO, we will be holding talks with young Alex in the very near future.
We've invested a fair bit of time and faith in Alex and we aim to continue to do so, we got his batting up to the standard to where it belongs and his bowling was the next step.

Fair enough mate, i think common sense will probably prevail and he will stay at Smithfield, definatly lots of peer pressure in that kind of situation.

Im excited our guys are even talking/thinking about cricket so early previous years it was the furthest thing from their minds.

All well and good to be keen now. Its a long bloody season.

The key is to be keen during those hot January/February months...that's when you'll know where your group is really at.

True, but normally and from what i have been told with footy doing so well over recent years at EPFC cricket has been nothing much more than a social second thought for a group of players.

The group we had last year had no issue with playing in the heat so long as it didnt conicide with a football match ;)

Im sure once young alex has a good think about things, away from influences, he will see where his future lies. He is a good lad, comes out to training very consistently and has a lot of potential to become a gun cricketer. Smithfield has put alot of effort into alex, particuarly LM, and i reckon with knowing alex quite well, he will want to stick around with us and play a important part in Grade One this season. I know that when i started playing as a 15 year old at smithfield many years back now, LM had a huge influence with my cricket, giving me a go in the A's and really putting time in my development. Alex has that opportunity now and i hope he chooses the right direction he sees fit.

Pretty sure we skipped the lower grades for you back then and you picked up a 4 fa on debut and chucked you up the order when we saw fit. There's nothing worse than blooding/ developing kids and they go elsewhere or quit, I don't mind losing them to district cricket but it's a fair kick in the nuts when they play elsewhere at the same level or lower.
I'm sure after a chat and a look at the structure's we have in place for the season he'll realize he can still spend time with his former school mates and be a part of our future too, I was only chatting to him last Wednesday night and he was keen as, an impulse decision IMO.

I wouldn't think that you guys would chase him mate, we have a gentlemen's agreement to not chase each others players and to allow clearances for those who have every intention of wanting to part companies.
Some players we just can't seem to give back to each other if you get my drift ;)

Reminds me of a young ruckman we had that went to virginia this year, a YES! man when asked if he wants to pley here or play there when different people ask. Like i said once he settles down and crickets about to kick off, he'll hang round, i reckon he is pretty loyal to us. And there a blokes in our side that he looks up to aswell.

Yep more than likely, he probably had his mates there and they were saying come out you will get to do this and get to do that etc etc 'the captain is brilliant to play under' ;)

but once his had time his heart will be at Smithfield. Look if the lad does come out to us we would make him feel welcome but at no point would we ring or contact him about playing at EPFC this year.

I see no reason why we cant. Those players who have been putting in the effort are starting to see the benefits.

We are still on the lookout for some new players. In particular we are looking for some experienced A Grade bowlers.

We have our normal Wednesday training session starting at 5pm for those wanting some extra fitness work and this coming Sunday we are back at St Jays indoor nets, 1pm for our team warm ups and then in the nets from 1.30pm-3pm Once again we have 4 nets hired.
