Bring back the SCA vs ASCA rep games anyday to sort this out. I think you were the jokes because we (SCA) used to win all the time. I beleive they stopped becasue you (ASCA) didn't want to play anymore.

That is a long way from the truth. I understand that SCA has a good history in the inter association games against ASCA, not that i think either side would get their best 11 on the field, but the reason they don't play each other now is not because we are scared but more that we have played in the cusa/samca comp and you guys have played in the Meyer(sp?) shield.

Maybe having a rep game this year would be a good thing for you guys to work out you are not the better comp ;) :D

What on does thathave to do with the ins-and-outs of this topic?

I reckon we stopped playing assoc games because most of the players in our comp couldnt be arsed!

But that has nothing to do with whats going on here.

At least in years to come we'll have an association to play a game for i guess.

You mentioned history, which is great, but history does not get you much when your trying to survive.

I might also add that ASCA started in 1899. If you would like to read more about OUR history you can have a look at A century of the Adelaide and Suburban Cricket Association Incorporated : 1899-1999 / written and compiled by Russsell Wight.

Having played at both Cove and Noarlunga cricket clubs many moons ago, this whole thing is very disappointing..
The Cove that I remember was a great club both on and off the ground with massive success through the late 80s early 90s..
There were some great people steering the place like Russ Coppock..
Unfortunately things do not last forever and no doubt The Cove have made a decision in what they think is their best interests.
2 points though...
1...The grass is not always as green on the other side as it may appear..
2...Never forget what and where made you great...

As far as Noarlunga and Shoe Boy...
You will find nobody more passionate about his club, both cricket and footy and clubs die for those sort of people to be involved.
One thing I do know is he loves winding people up and from what I read he is having a ball....
Also, be assured the Noarlunga club both cricket and Footy is one of the best clubs you could ever be involved with..
One very tight knit place to be...
That often annoys the crap out of opposition teams who have and will form their own opinions...

A sad day indeed but the SCA will survive..

Interested Observer - The administrator you mentioned made many really bad decisions, as an SCA member, not as a Cove member, that in the long term affected the state and numbers of the SCA.
I'm not going to go into them here as it was long time ago, PM me if you want.

The A&SCA is a good competition with a strong committee.
They will not put up with some of the garbage Cove have dished out over the years and seemingly accepted by some past SCA committee members.

IE - made a good point, the grass might not be greener on the other side.

I would like to re-iterate, I'ts not so much the fact that Cove are leaving, it's the way they went about it.

Time for the slagging to finish and to move on. Decision made.
Its not a case of which association is better. Suburban has picked up the best team in SCA and there is a fair bit of animosity due to this. Of course suburban will be excited by this as Cove's record in its 30+ years speaks for itself in all grades.
It is weak for anyone to blame Cove for past problems in the SCA as all that is really saying is that the association committee during this time was weak if there were all these issues going on (and yes I am aware of these).
Everyone should use this time to begin preparing for the upcoming season and setting their clubs up as best they can to achieve success.
Cove will gain strength by this change as we now take our greatest competitor in a head on confrontation and we will see what happens. It will be a rivalry to take on all rivalries with anticipation already mounting. It was almost like a business decision in the end, and to survive in the long term future sometimes you must be ruthless.
All the best for all teams in both associations in the upcoming season.

Agreed Turbo.
Cove had various teams from the mid 80's to mid 90's that would've been competitive in the A Grade district comp.

SOme of my better players from Cove since I first played them in 1987.

Paul Kinnear - Best bowler ever in the SCA and super quick in his prime. Smokes like a chimney but still steamed in after 30 overs. An ex team mate of mine walked on an LBW when facing the great man.

Dale Champion - Peeled off about 6 tons in a row against Port. One of the best bats ever in the SCA. Could bowl sharp till he did his back in.

Ken Bermingham - Most destructive opening batsman I've seen except for Greg Dowset.

Travis Bahr. - Always going to be a good fast bowler but must've learnt a fair bit from Mole. His cranium count would be high.

Kym McDonald - Gun junior and made quite a few at senior level too. Made an A Grade ton on a saturday afternoon, another in a 1 dayer the next day. This after hitting a ton in the juniors saturday morning, the last 50 batting left handed.

Charlie Stewart - Great player and nice guy too.

Al Stienert who struck 166 against us one saturday when it seemed like 45 degrees. Some massive sixes hit.
And his loveable captain that day, MG.
