For the record, the 270-run stand by J.Smith & R.Marshall is the highest partnership in a Grand Final for over 50yrs in this competition, dating back to ol' Gordon Turner and Enfield batting for both days some 50-odd years ago under the old GF format, similar to the current-day Sheffield Shield where the 1st-placed team only has to draw to win. ;)
Gordon Turner...now he was a great bat. When I first started playing cricket I remember bowling to him in the nets at Enfield (yes I'm that old) and he had a very broad bat. Not only a great bat, but a great man.

with that in mind... here's a loaded sort of a question. which player was the best new recruit by any club in 2008-2009... J. Smith is certainly a candidate, yes...?
I will say Paul Wright Enfield to Central Mission..

Has just about won games single handedly and also put CM into a strong position in the GF against none other than ENFIELD

gee u guys know how to flush me out :P

hendo, the rules are not clear, which was my point all along. Have a good read and find for me where
1) points are ALLOCATED for a draw - not in the rules but we get 3 points....hello exec people again ;)
2) the definitition of a DRAW...well there is a little somethiing on this
3) the definitiion of ABONDONED game....more hellos to exec ;)

you will clearly note that if , in a MAJOR round, the game is ABONDONED, there is no premise whatsoever to award the match to anyone. This is fact, undisputable, as outlined in our rules.

couple this with with the exec having the power to RESCHEDULE the grand final...which was not done. Ask pistol to hear this phone call he talks about.....i wish i could.

just thought i would make this clear to everyone. What has resulted from kicking and screaming is reserve days for GF...so thats a positive thing. As herder said.....WTF with MONDAYS?!!! Surely we can play on a sunday for one freakign day of the year......SURELY !!!

i can rewrite the rules to make them ironclad, trust me disecting rules is what i do. i charge by 15min intervals at $120/15 min (rounded up)..plus GST.

Para Vista As made 343 last week.
Suppose NE Knights are 9/90 at 4pm on Saturday and it starts to rain. The umpires offer the batsmen to go off and of course they accept. No further play is possible on the day.

According to my understanding of the official Match Rules, NE Knights then become premiers since the match ends in a draw and they were the higher ranked team in the minor round. Nowhere does it state that the match should be completed on another day.

Do people think that this is fair? What should happen in cases like this?

All I know is that whatever happens, the exec committee will be blamed for everything. ;)

ahhhh...how refreshing!!! foresight from the exec....good stuff ecky. seriously.

now i know u want my thoughts.....so here is :P

without having the rules infront of me - i believe u to be right. if the game is a DRAW (not abondoned :P) it DOES go to the higher side. is this fair....no. these are the rules, and you wouldnt find me fighting this...even if i was PV. mind you, i wouldnt be happy. but the rules are quite clear on this one, and there are no grounds to move at present.

However, having identified this as an issue,, i believe, that if there is a reserve day, it should be used to complete the GF...on a freaking SUNDAY!! maybe u can incorporate something like this into the rules. it demonstrates that the exec and the rules are giving everyone a sporting chance to play for glory....which is all the teams ask for.

as for the subject matter, i was just pointing out the fact that a fitzroy player was saying that it was fair that the no.1 side after the minor round should be crowned the champion if there was no play during the hot spell! That was not the view of the Fitzroy cricket club

obviously you are one of the wingers that wouldnt let it be! and still cant get over it!

Im well and truly over it, and for the record....i think and have ALWAYS THOUGHT that the team that finishes higher gets all the advantages like home grounds, hot weather etc etc. If you look through the pages you will find not one word from me in regards to last years GF.

....well the king seems to have a few court jesters in his team of knights!!! shame on you!!

hows the golf going mate? have u got a hole in one like me (180m PAR 3, 5 iron @ the vines :))

Lets see, was not the rule, the game could be replayed up until 1 month after the proposed date. Fitzroy was up to playing the following week, PV were not, should Fitzroy win on forfiet? Not that we would want to win like that.

Take it to court? lol your funny.
