We had the exact same discussion with Russell the week before against NH. Bazza, I'd have thought you might have taken notice of that?

Looks like Tony needs to check that with Russell. Can't understand why so many basic rules arn't understood by our umps.

I would support a rule change if it was proposed at AGM.

Go one better AF propose it ;)

hehe, the only thing that'll cost WYC the home ground win will be the might of the Ramblers' batsmen! Calderbank didn't get a single wicket last night at training and he got 7 of you boys... ;)

Only playing around... really looking forward to the contest on the weekend and possibly next weekend. Was good to bowl against some of the "old timers" who we've had many battles against... guys like Pressy, Russell etc.

Speaking of Russell, in the first over whilst I was at fine leg, I didn't even recognise him - he's definitely looking fitter than I've seen him. I only worked out it was him as he charged at AF 3rd ball of the day ;) Only a couple of guys who do that in the comp. that early on...

Talking about gloveman in another topic, just thought i would see who everyone thinks is the best gloveman in our comp? and also the best keeper/batsman??

Best Gloveman - S.Ford
Best Gloveman/Batsman - S. Ford (run wise) but ability to dominate an attack i would say Ben McCormack from WYC. I guess Naismith from Plympton (not sure about his keeping) but he would probably fall third in the list IMO behind Fordy and McCormack. Colo have not seen him so can not comment.

Best bat - Sambo closely followed by Brendan McCormack from Sheidow.
Best Bowler - Rowe/Hopkins. Hopkins with the record to back it up and Rowe, well everyone knows the reason (he is a gun)

Would say that Fordy is the best bat aswell as the best keeper.

Best Bowler: Rowe or Sambo

On the Hewitt medal i think it will be decided this week between Rowe and Sambo. If Sambo makes runs against us i think he will wrap it up. If Rowe can make a few and then take wickets in the second innings i think he will win it. Only 2 in the race i would think.

Ford is the best complete package as a keeper and then McCormack.
Best Bowler would have to be Rowe. He has certainly helped O'Malley get more wickets this year.
Best Bat Brendan McCormack by the length of the straight for mine.

sambo for mine bowls too short to often. but he is quick so he can get away with it.
I think Hopkins (altho had a quieter year) is in the best two, has a proven record, can bowl everything and bowls at good pace when he wants.
Im worried dingles may get up in the hewett, had a good year but not in top 20 cricketers in the comp IMO. Rowe or sambo are big chances and so are rusty...

I think they should do a count for the medal, not like last year and do the 3rd 2nd and announce the winner. Its very ordinary.
All div 1 clubs get a table have a night together and celebrate the year, the premiers and the best player. $30 p/head or somethin like that, just somethin else that entices people to play for a div 1 spot as a club or person.

W/K - Colo is the best W/k I have seen, tho the best of his agility is behind him. Ford didn't get the chance to keep to us so haven't seen him. Can't speak highly of his batting either ;)

Bowling - the most talented blokes in the comp waste most of their talent IMO. Sampson, Drenthen, McKinley bowl too much crap. Rowe bowled well to us but was unlucky not to take quite a few - O'Malley did that for him. Haven't seen any devastating spells from any bowler this season, but the pick would probably be Rowe. Wayne Jones/Justin Strange/Shane Pitt probably the best I've seen.

Batsman - Sheidow's McCormack. Not even close. Others have the skill but not the temperament. Press is the best over a long period of time that I've seen and taking into account Andrew Magarey's age - it's amazing he is still somewhat competitive at A Grade level.

All Rounder - This year I guess you would say Rowe. Tho Sampson is most talented. And my favourite player Robbie Hopkins has the stats in the book more than anyone else currently. Shane Pitt probably the best I've played against and probably the loosest. Played against Doug Nixon when I first started in the Ds, has something like 10,000 runs and 900 wickets to his name for Coromandel. Amazing.

I agree re the bowling there AF. It would be scary if Drenthen was a bowler. I don't mean any disrespect to him by that but if he had the bowling smarts of a O'Malley he would take millions of wickets every year. Yes he is very quick but he doesn't seem able to bowl for an extended period in the one spot which i think costs him lots of wickets.

Brendan has superb application whilst batting and that is major factor in why he scores so many runs. Pressy is similar but probably doesn't have as much natural talent as Brendan but Pressy has the stats on the board and they are extremely impressive. The most talented batsmen at our club is no doubt Robbie Hopkins but as you mentioned earlier AF temperament is one thing holding him back from scoring lots more runs, although that is something that he has improved on greatly this season.

Rowe, Hopkins and Sampson are three blokes any side would love to have even if they were only able to perform one of the disciplines which shows how good they really are.

Just though id give my 2 cents worth

Colo from the ramblers IMO kept very well against us, i was at square leg for 12 or so overs and there was some very gd wicket keeping while i was there. Was a few stumping chances that he created, so forgive me AF if i dont 100% agree with you when you say his most agile years are behind him. Must of been some sort of freak athlete if that is so!! Although it must be added that he did give you a catch off pressy that any decent keeper would of caught lol. Good catch though!!
