Wonder if they applied for that ACA funding for former first class players coaching??? Potentially saves them some cash......

Also is Ross Whiteley coming back? believe he doesn't have much of a reason to come back to Adelaide anymore.....

I heard SACA have put most grounds out to tender. What was the reasoning behind this? do clubs have a say on who does their pitches?

SACA pays the bills out of each club's funding....

So number of district team to decrease to 12, not the 10 coming out of the clubs. Is it already being watered down?
Did I read it correctly when it said it was reducing to 12 teams to align it with ATCA. The peak body aligning itself to a community competition. Shouldn't the peak body establish what is best of itself and then if there is any aligning it is done from the bottom up?

With the 12 clubs thing maybe Bradshaw didn't agree with 10 and over ruled in his own report?

Will reserve judgement until further details is provided by SACA.

So how will they get it to 12? Easier than 10 I guess. It does seem a good move (except for the club/clubs who will be removed/merged).

So one merger? Or two mergers and the Gawler Gorillas to come in?

Also from that release it sounds as though the major change will be a mountain of new paperwork for club volunteers.

Reckon they're appointing an A Grade coach to look after a squad of 16-17 players, then a development coach to look after the rest. Splitting the role up. Not sure of names but I heard Mick Delaney at one stage.

Re: Grade Cricket

The South Australian Cricket Association has this evening endorsed a series of recommendations from the Zadow Report, aimed at aligning Grade cricket with the National Player Pathway program.

As the link between community cricket and high performance, the Grade cricket competition will be reduced from 13 to 12 teams effective from season 2016-17; a move that will dispense with the existing bye and align the competition with the Adelaide Turf Cricket Associations’ (ATCA) scheduling.

The West End Grade Cricket Competition will be renamed the West End Premier Cricket Competition, effective as of season 2015-16. This will more clearly reflect the purpose of the competition and align it with the other states and territories in Australia who are currently, or in the process of, shifting to Premier cricket.

SACA President Andrew Sinclair said, “The Association has a responsibility to ensure that all money it distributes is being spent to ensure cricket is South Australia's favourite sport — a sport for all South Australians.”

“As such, the loosely tied grants that SACA has provided clubs in the past will be replaced with a funding application process to ensure that Grade clubs are working to help the organisation reach its strategic objectives.

“There will be stricter governance with new guidelines to be developed by the SACA Board to ensure that the Grade Cricket Committee and Grade competition are working to enhance cricket in SA.”

The 'Zadow Report' into Grade cricket in South Australia was released in May 2014. This report, commissioned by the SACA Board, made a series of recommendations into how to improve the quality of Grade cricket.

I think the point is they will align the scheduling with the ATCA which will make it easier for players to move between the two competitions. Having coached in both comps, I think this is a good move - very frustrating to have to leave some poor 17 year-old D-grader without a game when college and state players come back in December, conversely when struggling for numbers at a turf club and there are 40+ guys sitting around from a grade club doing nothing because of the bye, who can't be played because the programs are out of sync. This may also help community and grade (premier) clubs to develop better working relationships.

Exactly, well put SH.

This will be a positive move for GC. Also i like the fact that the funding arrangements have been tightened and stricter governance required.

I have a feeling a few clubs will be a bit worried.

The unlucky 13th club to be relegated to ATCA premier grade and then operate a promotion/relegation with the winner of ATCA premier grade and the wooden spoon :-P
