Rules are rules and if you break them for one person you have to break them for everyone.

Played 2 E Grade games.... Filled in for A's a month ago. Wanted to have one more hit for the year

Social cricket isn't it ??

Should be able to return to the grade you started in after just 1 game in the higher grade. Can of worms if a bowler breaks down 5 minutes before the game on one ground and a bloke gets called from the other ground at the last minute. Pretty ordinary decision IMHO. Just one of a string of ordinary decisions over the last couple of years.

of course you'd say that... a bloke playing div 1 one week and div 8 the next... sounds reasonably fair to me... you flogger.

Maybe every game in between should count as a grade down whether you play in it or not.

Either way then a player has to play down through the grades or sit an extended period out

fair cheap shot there bags... n a pretty p!ss poor attempt at winding me up lol

the lad batted very well, even if i had caught him on 90 or whatever he was on, really he deserved a hundred with the way he batted. played n missed a few but when ur in that amount of time u cant hit them all i guess, was a pretty much chanceless innings up until that dropped catch. the bowling wasnt the greatest, few loose ones served up but cant take credit away where credit is due. well played to him

at the end of the day though its all about the end result. hoping, and expecting us to chase down the remaining 210 needed to win this weekend so the rest is history.

Don't see why it's such a controversial opinion. You should be able to fill in for a higher grade then return to the grade you were playing. Especially if there's a long gap between those games. And before people start getting uppity about us making a mistake, this was something Oz did as a favour for the captain. Nothing was asked of the club whether he could return and I doubt Oz would have done things differently had he known other than to enjoy the last game with his old man when he knew it was happening. There is also the definite possibility of this opening a can of worms. Oz mightn't have been a last minute fill in, but the association have made their stance that a guy who is in that position can't go down so far in one jump whatever the circumstances.

Surely you could understand though how teams may and probably would take advantage if they could jump to any grade any week

Who ? Fill ins ? Different if they had 10 or so games under their belt and had played the whole year and were going to continue to do so....

So much for a case by case basis... May as well make a set in stone rule and not waste everyone's time by allowing permits to be requested. What is the point?

Honestly in your case it's sad the rules don't allow for you to do this and no one is doubting your story.

Though in saying that the rules were there at the start of the year and have been in place for a fair while, Salisbury West are one of the most knowledgable clubs in the pdca, you have depth and would be one of the last clubs in the pdca that need to fill a div1 spot with a guy who had played div8

The sad part is for every genuine case like yours there would be many cases where it would get taking advantage of despite being social cricket. It's hard to take it case by case as a tribunal as people will always have stories and no problems lying to the decision makers.
