D Rowe, Basso, H Mckay and Cooke all unavailable. So in come Tight Lines(well deserved i might add) J Lourens(also having a superb year) R Brokensha and G Pritchard.

Hopefully that makes a few people happier with the selection process.

Is there an U/21's game this weekend?

Churches do not have a 21s side IIRC so the 21s next game is on the 28th against Adelaide Turf, the same date when the seniors play Turf

it should be very interesting game actually...may even be this years sec 1 grand finalists also. i think keswick need heath and rusty 2 fire 2 win. mccallaugh may also be a threat as an unknown quantity that can also turn it on and petentally win a game off his bat. i think wyc have the whole package 2 win but u just never know

Hopefully Keswick dont bowl hand grenades in the first over this time tho Caleb??

This should definitely be a good game between the two sides. We get 3 weeks of eachother in a row as we play them rd 11 at their ground.

I think the sides are very evenly matched and will come down to who bowls better IMO on the day. I think both batting sides are pretty strong and bat deep so should be interesting.

Quick thanks to Brad Williamson and Keswick who helped accomodate the early start for our boys on the 21st. They were keen on the day and due to some issues was best for an early start (altho we may feel it that morning  ) (think you will be at the same 21st Caleb?)!! I really hope we dont end up playing Keswick in the semi's otherwise i we will be sick of eachother thats for sure.. t20 gf, RD 11 and semi!! 5 days of cricket against the same club lol

Yer, what is with the early start? I might have to film this game!
Also, how did Calderbank get an association game? Was A. Wilson unavailable?

Early start as a few of our boys are starting work at 4.

Calderbanks figures suggest he is the best slow bowler in the comp. I know wilson is skiperring the 21's not sure if he was asked to play seniors or not.

Why Adam Willson Gowser?

He would be 4th in line behind Calderbank, Bloods and Sammy Foster i would think. Has not really taken a bag or anything at Sect 1 level. Altho i do agree he would be a good control bowler from one end ..

BayBoy would have to be a chance wouldnt he? averaging 30 with the bat and 6 with the ball.

I haven't seen Bloods and Foster (what club?) I thought A. Wilson bowled really well when we played S. Road and he is a far better batsman than Calderbank.

I highly rate Adam Wilsons bowling. I think he has great control. I watched the 21's game a few weeks ago and he really did bowl well. Sam Foster bowls very well too and could bat in the top 6 in that side.

doesnt matter what you think of jcs bowling, he is near the top of the wickettaking lists for section 1 and has been for a few years. i think bloods is a better spinner then wilson, wilson is more of a batter then a spinner.

I agree i think Wilson is a very tight bowler just not a big wicket taker. Fossy bowls well and also bats well i am not sure if the top 6 is right for him in an association game though.

Yeah i think his record in A grade suggests he is a top 6 association batter sarge  :?

Nice yorker tonight then Caleb?? Whats the outcome? JC playing this week for seniors association side or not?

No matter what people say, JC's record does speak for itself, he should be picked in this side. However i guess after a couple senior games he will be expected to bowl really well. If he doesnt then he may come up for debate but at the moment his selection is worthy IMO.

Gowser, Foster plays for Sheidow Park. Bay Boy's record, how often does he bowl? Where does he bat in your side? Average of six, but how many wickets and overs has he bowled? I never knew he could bowl so im suprised and really have no clue about what he bowls!!

Willson is definitely a quality one day bowler, not a wicket taking bowler, but a tight bowler, and a solid batsman. At this stage, i think he is not in the top 30 cricketers at the moment, but it will change very quickly IMO. Good bloke to go with it!!

Caleb, you were not meant to mention the sloppy shots lol ;)

yeh dunno if hell be able to play, he should be able to, we dont think its broken just shifted the nail cause it was bleeding after he took his shoes off. and he could wiggle it so all signs point to it being ok, i think he was more angry at missing the ball then anything, haha

as for the sloppy shots, maybe it would have been better for my team not to get those catches, cause having luders and mccormack come in with a very new ball was not alot of fun, hahaha.

Pretty harsh, Gowser. IMO, your argument doesn't really stack up either. He's the leading wicket taker with a very good average, strike rate and economy (particularly for a slow bowler), so wouldn't it stand to reason he'd actually be a bad captain if he didn't bowl himself?

If he wasn't captain, he'd still be getting the overs as he keeps producing. He was 2nd in wickets last year from memory. What would you do in his position?

As I told JC on Sunday, as a captain he gets more out of his players than anyone I've played under.

Oh, and unless something incredible happens, he'll be there Saturday & for the Association game. Caleb's not that quick ;)

The talk of slow bowlers is an interesting one. It's something I personally believe is becoming less and less used in section 1 cricket.

Having a look at the stats, and I totally agree and acknowledge that stats don't always tell the full story, but except for Calderbank in the top spot, the next leading wicket taking slow bowler is a fair way back in the field @ 27 (Bloods), possibly due to a fairly meagre 6-odd overs an innings. You then have Foster and Quirk a bit further back again, also bowling fairly low over numbers. (apologies to anyone I missed in that list in the top 40 odd)

It's hard to make assumptions on why that's the case. Strike rates are around the mark, averages and economy figures are a bit higher, but to be expected. Are there just less spinners coming through the ranks? Captains weary of bowling spinners due to the higher economy rates?

Anyway, just a thought (slow day at work). No disrespect to anyone out there, just a talking point.
