Hmm, we're talking about batsmen here so i would take a guess and say No. John Williams from Warradale i would suspect, easierly one of the best cricketers in the past twenty years !

Why do you have to bag King and Press for not "wanting" to play state cricket, how do you kow they weren't in the same boat. Both fantastic cricketers. Sick and tired of people bagging other players abilities on this forum.

Thanks Bazza. Pressy is one of, if not, the hardest working cricketers i have met at our club in my time. He didnt actually start playing cricket until he was 20 odd if im correct, bloods or booney? He was infact a mad tennis player and turned to cricket in his later years.

And Dr Tims, if he could have played state cricket he would have. It is not just about talent. It is about committment, it is about dedication, talent, skill, and all those things. Yes he had talent, but to play state cricket, i do not beleive so. I believe Pressy has got the most from his ability, and to bag a bloke of his quality (as a person) is a cheap shot IMO. Kingy on the other hand ;) I joke! He also has got the most out of his ability, even if that is dominating hard wicket for numerous years.

Bad call Gowser, Shane Pitt has never under achieved at anything. Unfortunately these "Best ever" lists will always be subjective because people always feel the need to include players from their own clubs.
The best batsman at our club has got to be a bloke called graham Touhy, who ran me out in my 1st game for MPCC for a diamond duck. GT made over 10,000 runs for us, mostly in A grade. Shane Pitt is number 2 as a batsman, & number 3 as a bowler, but number 1 as an all round cricketer. Also a life member & one of, if not the most popular blokes at MPSC of all time.
I agree with CK & the rest, stop bagging blokes on this forum. Why have a discussion about "Best" players & then feel the need to put others down. Best ever at MPCC with bat or ball: 1.Shane Pitt 2. Geoff Hardy 3. H.Cochrane 4. G.Touhy 5.M.Thomas

How many blokes in every league in evey state could had played state cricket? As Ck said to reach that level of any sport you need to Sacrifice and commit alot of your time, time that im sure most people wouldn't have with family, work, mates permitting and the chances even still then are very slim to get that chance.

Im sure there are plenty of blokes that could had from our league but reality is for most that cricket is a hobby so really to say some has wasted their talent or under achieved is silly cause for most cricket is for enjoyment not a career.

Misunderstood me Moe, my comments were more a compliment than a bagging. S. Pitt had a bulletproof batting technique and in my opinion he coulda (and should have) been a better batsman than a bowler.
My list isnt just batsmen its more best cricketers, hence Rossi being on the list. Pat Cardillo is a name i couldn't remember at the time, used to play for ANZ. Great bat in a shit team.

Whoever said Hibberd should be on my list obviously doesn't know what a good batsmen is.

I believe it was WYC 206 to Ramblers 137. Not 100% sure of scores, but around that mark.

WYC batted first and made 207(I think) after being 2/1 after 3 balls. We got lucky in that the ramblers catching was ordinary at best I would think they dropped about 7 or 8 catches IIRC. McCormack batted well for 50 odd, Luders 40 R King 30 Hopkins 30 and Harvey 20.

Ramblers were bowled out in 19 overs for about 145(I think).

Ferris, Wright and Work would've top scored with about 35 each I would say.

M king took 4/25 and I got about 3/20.

Even though you say this comment is meant to be in fun ab, it could come across quite differently, especially to Michael & Shane.
So, in an effort to keep my head intact, I am stating catergorically that I have not said a thing behind any MPCC person behind their backs. Apart from 1 incident 4 years ago, I can safely say I always tell people what I think to their faces.
In fact this season, I have abstained from having opinions on selections, captaincy decisions or any on field issues (even though I am asked a hell of a lot).

It will not be a problem next season!
