Just thought I'd let people know there is a weetbix mycricket iPhone app now available. Will be handy in cricket season to check the scores easily, the fixture and the ladders.

If the rumors are right, and Michael Thomas has been made the captain of Cove, it should make the Morphy Parks v. Cove game interesting.
Note to the ASCA Committee: 2 umpires for this game please ;)

Big vote tonight on the format of the competition. Who's voting for Keswick's motion and who isn't?

Last year it was WYC and the Ramblers plus some others preventing the 2/3 majority needed for approval. Has anything changed this year?

Will the 4 teams finishing bottom of Section 1 last season be voting against it so they are not demoted to section 2? If they do it would be enough to stop it.

I don't mind one-dayers but what about the 6,7,8,9 batsmen in each team? What is in it for them to play one-dayers? Also those guys in each team in the lower grades who "make-up the numbers" and would normally bat near the tail and not get much of a bowl - how will they get to do anything in a one-dayer? Not keen on the 3 extra selection nights and the concept hasn't helped Hills cricket which is struggling.

Will be interesting to see the position of all clubs a year after this was initially proposed. I think the biggest support will come from the clubs outside section 1, but I may be wrong.

I am still very undecided as to what I think.I believe One dayers will help get people to play that perhaps cant committ to two day games with work etc.I also believe it would be handy for all those music festivals we now have . On the other side though I agree that not all players will get a fair go and the concept of 2 day cricket is better for all involved .

My personal opinion is against this motion, for the following reasons:

- Finals Cricket is 2 day cricket, so the majority of minor round cricket should be 2 day cricket
- Currently with 10 2 day games if you get a wash out on the first day your fall back is a 1 dayer on the second day, with this motion there will be far more no-result matches if inclement weather occurs
- The aparent logic behind this motion is that it would help selection due to more 1 dayers, but you are only lowering the 2 day games by 3 which I thought was the main problem to begin with, so your not really changing much.
- Tough luck if your a lower middle order batsman
- Other comps have brought in these types of arangements and those comps are now in decline eg SCA which some years ago brought in more 1 dayers in lower grades for exactly the same reason as this motion has done. SCA is now on its knees in a geographical area which is growing more arguably more rapidly than anywhere in metropolitan adelaide, so why is this?
- 3 more selection nights while manageable is tedious and a pain in the ass

ASCA is a strong comp, it is not broken, and it does not need to be fixed.

This motion is by default going to strengthen the clubs that like being big fish in little ponds, instead of striving for the pinnacle which in our Comp of course is Section One.

I also found it strange that at the last meeting when the Clubs were asked how many teams they were all proposing to field next season, the Club that is behind this motion again is planning on fielding 5 senior teams. Times must be tough!

Its going to be interesting tonight to see how we're going to fit all the people in! Clubs passionate either way will be using every last vote I would have thought!

Keswick will be able to field 5 teams if they have picked up most of Westminster's players. They were one of the two main offenders who forfeited their lowest team last season from memory.

I get the feeling that it will be the smaller clubs voting for it.

I think being able to swap players during a game satisfies the music festivals and those not being able to commit to a full game suffiiciently now.

One dayers in the lower grades would mean there are 6 days where they need to start one hour earlier and potentially play and extra 20 overs. Not sure how that makes it easier to get people out to play.
