1 loser will go through.

It will be based on the run rate difference. The closest loser will go through to round 2.

Disapointing 1st game for pfcc... 1's lose outright, brock batted well apparently for 60 odd. 2's lose by a very narrow margin, very disapointing result. But i was very happy with the lads effort considering we had few new blokes playing.

Great to see a team (cove) bat out their overs and not call it a day after passing a weak total and go in for beers. That kind of focus could see them go very deep this year.

My take on this years teams.

1 Keswick - This side is pretty experienced and this may get them across the line in some games. Despite taking 20 wickets in the first game i think it will be their bowling that will be their weakness. Their batting is reasonably strong through the order and if a few players can have big years such as Curyer and Mcrae then they will be in the mix for the top 4.

2 Coromandel - The side to beat this year IMHO. They were very close last year. A quality bowling line up that most sides will struggle to post 200+ against this year. Their batting, whilst capable, is inconsistent and this will be the part of the game they need to improve on. If they get their batting right and have consitent contributions from Koirala, Oakey and Sam Cheek they will be very difficult to beat.

3 Cove - Have picked up a few new players this year and they have certainly added to an already explosive batting line up. This side will constantly hit 250+ this year. Their bowling has been strengthened as well and will certainly be a very hard side to beat this season. Their challenge will be against the likes of keswick and coro whom they will need to beat to get a top 2 spot.

4 Western Youth Centre - I think we will be around the mark again this year but i do believe, as last year showed, we are far from being a dominant team. We will win more than we lose but i think we wil rely on winning some more close games this year than we have had to in the past. Batting will remain our strength and will need to again rely on Hoppy with the ball.

5 Morphettville Park - Have lost some important players and i think this will test their consistency. They are always a side that is around the mark and i suspect them to be around the 4-8 mark.

6 ICC Sharks - ICC will be a strong side once again this year with the inclusion of Ledgard. He is a quality allrounder. He will need a little help with the bat but he has plenty of help with the ball already. They are certainly capable of beating all sides on their day. If a few of their other bats stand up a top 2 finish isn't out of the question.

7 South Road - The best side not to win in round 1 for me. They have a good attack and a good solid batting line up. Need big years from a few bats, Krutli and Wilson, as i don't think too many sides will hit 250+ against them as ICC did in rnd 1.

8 Glenelg ANA - Will again rely too heavily on Basso and Rowe. Those two will win them a few games but they don't seem to have the depth especially in their batting to be the side they were a few years ago.

9 North Haven - I think the loss of their middle order batsmen will prove a challenge for North Haven to overcome. They lacked a little penetration in their bowling but didn't have a great deal of luck either. They will need the older heads in the side to be consistent.

10 Belair - Bowling will again be their strength. Their batting will be their problem. They need to be making scores of 175-225 consistently to give their bowlers a go at winning the game for them.

11 Coromandel Ramblers - Their batting got showed up in a big way in round 1 however i think they will improve a fair bit in the next few games. Batting will be their problem with too much falling on AF's shoulders. Their bowling whilst solid isn't overly penetrating. Against longer batting line ups they will struggle to take 10 wickets. I don't see them being hit for 290 too often but 200 might just be enough more often than not against the ramblers this year.

12 Plympton Footballers - Round 1 outright loss is as bad as it gets. This showed how much reliance they have on Naismith, Giersch and Habib with the bat. Habib and Naismith in particular are guys that will bat time and make runs. Pomeroy stood out again as their best player but he can't carry the side on his own. The older guys will again need to be consistent for them to get back to the standard they set themselves last year. This will no doubt help the younger players come in and out of games and provide some solid contributions.

If Cove are supposed to be a major force this season with all their gun recruits, why did they not have another crack at Belairs so called brittle batting line up?

I think the Cove captain made the correct call Moe. With 4 new recruits to the side and 2 he had not seen bat before and no one getting a good bat in with daylight saving it was a great oppurtunity to see what some guys have got and also to get some time in the middle . I believe you are smart enough to know this but just trying to stir some people up Moe
