I like the Association Motion of just Section playing for 3 weeks of finals. Especially the lower grades it is a big ask to get blokes to front up Saturday and Sunday 3 weeks in a row, whether it be family reasons, work reasons or fitness reasons.

I was amazed last season how many teams finished 1st or 2nd did lose the Semi Final. From memory we finished a week earlier than SACA last season so no reason why the season couldn't finish on the last weekend of March to let Section 1 have 3 weeks of finals and a stand alone Final. Everyone else would stay as normal. No one loses any cricket and 22 blokes get a extra week of cricket.

We wouldn't be finishing a week later. This year we have an extra Saturday in the season.
Pre christmas - 6 x 2 Dayers
Post Christmas - 1 x 1 dayer (first game back). Then 4 x 2 dayers! Then 3 week final system for section 1.

In the following years the first game of the season and the first game after Christmas will be one dayers and 9 x 2 dayers to accommodate a 3 week final system.

A 3 week final system in section 1 is the way to go IMO. Mainly for two reasons - it will allow section 1 to be the pinnacle even more so, a stand alone Grand Final. The other reason, those playing section 1 are generally younger, fitter, and more committed to (if needed) playing 3 saturday/Sunday's in a row. Something that would be very hard for most players in sections 2 and below I would think

I would be suprised if you found too much opposition from other clubs for it then if thats how the season is going to be played, that looks ideal.

Not sure whether I'll be voting in favour of 3 weeks of finals in sect 1 or not (will be put to our AGM Monday), but here's a couple of other thoughts-

Despite being the premier grade of our comp we are still amateurs and I would be shot by the missus if I happened to play 3 weeks of sat/sun finals (agree it will be unlucky if that does happen)
A week off from cricket does not help form - it's a help in footy but not cricket - but I do like the idea of 1st and 2nd teams having easier opportunity to play in GF
I don't think the focus will shift to sect 1 very much with a standalone GF. The focus is already on sect 1. If our club had more than one team in the finals and one of them was sect 1 I'm sure the majority of supporters would be watching sect 1 anyway.

There's quite a few clubs that won't care less about this so it'll be interesting to see which way they vote given we need 2/3 majority

Not sure of your logic? Given that it is possible to go 3 weeks for a batsman to go without a hit & bowlers without a bowl during the season.

I think the 3 week finals system is the way to go, shouldve been done along time ago!!! Going 3 weeks without a hit means u need to practice, im sure people who have the week off will still have their training session but might even have an extra hit on the saturday!!! I hope it just starts up in Section 1, means a stand alone GF where clubs can get more supporters there, i know that in previous years, especially at WYC we had all 4 grades play GF's and had not a lot of supporters at grades. It didnt help that the A grade were the only home team.

WYC AGM tomorrow and a chance to meet the new coach!!!! LOOK OUT WYC, things will change for the better this season. I think our 1st item on the agenda will be that pre-season training will start probz early-mid august.

You blokes must put some pressure on captains to do extra work if he can still play but cant captain....
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Some clubs have captains that are the club coach by default.....other clubs appoint a separate coach the club but not play ;)

Would say that most club captains would be expected to make most if not all of the clubs main training sessions. Possibly steven cant do that. I expect that is why im not captain of our club, due to making it to the last half an hour of our main training session and then going about my usual business of doing SFA ;)

Is that right bloods?

Steven was named captain about 2 months ago, but with his new job which takes him interstate regularly, he made the decision that he could not give 100% to the job, and stepped down.
We, at MPCC applaud the fact that someone has put the club before himself, and are more than happy to have Steven just want to play, whereas he could quite of easily retired.
In answer to your statement, Yes, we do expect a little more from our captain(s) at Morphies, and all are quite happy to give it.
By the way, Steven is the President of our fundraising committee as well, Ross will be coaching one of our under 17 teams, and we do actually have a coach for the first time that I can remember this season, it's just that we have not advertised it on here.

Ross is one hell of a cricketer when on his game. Could rip a game away in 30 minutes with the bat, just didn't always spend the previous 15 - 20 minutes getting himself in and took the game on too early.

Always was passsionate about the game and has plenty to give to a club other than jokes and stories. Good bloke and hope he goes well. His borther Kevin is a fair player as well.

Both of these lads have been great for MPCC and I would love just one season of seeing them both near their best.
If this happens, MPCC will be close to premiers, especially if Steven can have another good year & Robbie Mc can improve on last year. Add in our 3 new recruits from district cricket, plus our under 17 players who play state cricket making cameos, who knowas what may transpire.

Have any of those Under 17 lads come up from your Under 15 side from last season?

I know ICC Sharks were going to lose a Oval with Morphett Vale West Primary shuting down and they had struck a deal to get 2 pitches laid at the New Morphett Vale Primary School (Use to be Morphett Vale High). I have now heard whisper they have struck a deal with OSB/Lonsdale Footy Club to use the Clubrooms. Does this mean they are moving out of Hackham Oval?
