We had a team mate that we ued to cringe about if he walked out to umpire, if the ball hit the pad it was LBW regardless. I can remember umpiring at square leg when he gave one of our team mates out who was at least 1.5 m out of his crease and the ball hit the top of the knee roll

We had a bloke that would fire his team-mates out if it didn't look like he was going to get a hit. The captain asked me "what shall we do"
I said "Just let him open the batting, it's only an extra couple of balls everyone would have to wait".
Sure enough, he'd get out then demand to go and umpire then proceed to give nothing for the rest of the innings.

Standing there when you know you have hit the cover off the ball and your team mate gives you not out means you are both cheating IMO.

If YOU know you are out, then walk, if there is any doubt, stay there. Simple. What goes around, comes around.

I personally have always been a walker no matter the situation official ump or not.

I don't begrudge people who don't walk when there is a paid umpire officiating the game but to not walk when a team mate is umpiring is shocking and shows you don't know much about the spirit of cricket IMHO.

If you have a paid official then he is there to make decisions - so stand until given

Agree with most blokes here - if a team-mate is umpiring I always walk. If someone is being paid to stand there & umpire then I let him do his job. I think it all evens out over time.

It's a pity that this isn't a "universal rule" though - even though most people on here say they'll walk if a team-mate is umpiring, most people when fielding don't seem to understand/accept this concept! I guess if everyone knew everyone else would abide by it then things would be okay but the world isn't perfect. It's like the "claiming a catch" agreement in Tests that Ponting tried to get going a couple of years ago. It's all fine until someone decides the situation is too important to do the right thing.

Funnily enough we had a game late last year when I had announced that to my team-mates in the rooms that I would walk if I hit one, & first ball of the innings I played & missed at an absolute gem. I didn't hit it but there was a noise from somewhere & even my team-mates on the sidelines thought I'd hit it! Naturally I didn't walk, my team-mate didn't give me out, & we were both being called cheats for the next hour. A couple of opponents were still complaining about it whilst having a beer after the game!! Oh well.

I had a team mate walk one day when I was umpiring, he had clearly not hit the ball, the bat was very close to the pad and the pitch, I'm not sure if the noise came from one or both of them, when I spoke to him later and told him the ball had missed the bat by at least 2" he swore he would never walk again either

Paid umps = don't walk
Teammates umpiring = walk, unless of course you play for Goodwood, are 9 wickets down and need two runs to win. Then you turn what was a good game played in great spirits by all into a total farce.

this could apply to playing other clubs.
