It will only give Noarlunga a chance to win a flag :) sorry Shoe Boy had to get that dig in.

Anyway given that they can barely get 22 players each week and have nearly folded on a couple of occasions you couldn't say they are a strong club. Cove are only held together by one family

Your missing the point.
If Cove want to go to another comp, whilst it's disappointing that's their choice.
It's the manner in which they've gone about it that's upsetting.
No communication with the association committee about their intentions, despite a legend of the SCA and Cove being a vice president of the association.
I can't recall 1 bad word said about the Reynella Cricket Club when they left because everyone knew it was happening and the RCC always kept the SCA informed.

I'll give you an example - 1989 one day final a fight breaks out between a cove player and an Aldinga player, who I will not name, both as much in the wrong as each other.
Cove player gets suspended sentence, Aldinga player gets LIFE ban later reduced to 7 or 10 years I think.
A Cove committee member was president of the association at the time.
I saw the incident and I can comment on the fact that both players were as bad as each other on the day.

Yep, I was there on that day as well Smithy.. was a very "GRIM" day.....

Any previous misdemeanors for the Aldinga player that may have contributed to the differing sentences?
I do recall a couple of Aldinga bowlers back about that time that used to push the laws to the limit with their aggression !!!
Maybe one "Reaped" his reward that day???
Cue... Shoe Boy ;)

I think that while there was certainly no love for Cove or some of their more well known and influential members, from an Aldinga point of view, it was more about population and location issues - I think we did well in Southern given the population bases that Cove, Morphett Vale, Reynella etc could draw on but Great Southern was always going to be a better fit.

Worst call ever. The club has never nearly folded, and will only get stronger in a better competition.

Reynella left to take up the Challenge of Turf Cricket in a better competition. On leaving they kept one or two Senior sides in SCA as well as Juniors.

I find it hard to work out how Cove had to drop the C Grade side and run with A and B Grade yet down the road Sheidow have got atleast 4 sides. I think it is fair to say that Cove are struggling in comparison.

Will be interesting to see how many players leave Cove due to the fact they are not interested in traveling all over the place, they also may gain some that are looking for a new challenge. I'm sure it won't be just one way traffic.

Coming from District then to Adelaide Turf I have am now starting a family and don't have as much time due to work so last year I played my first season in SCA as really enjoyed the fact that you could leave home at 12pm and be home by 6pm and you've had time to fit a beer in as well.

The bulls have 6 sides and could have 7 last year i believe with their numbers.

However, they are expecting to lose some to Cove if Cove join their comp as many of them play footy for Cove FC. Not only that, alot of juniors leave Cove IIRC because they stop at U/16 level and Sheidows have U/17, and not many of them return! This could be a reason as to why Cove could have low numbers aswell!

If the problem is the Juniors age groups U/16 v U/17 changing Associations for Seniors isn't going to help this as they will still go to Sheidow.

What are Cove doing with there Juniors? Are they staying in SCA or going to go to South Central?

Cove made a decision to move leagues, boo hoo. to think the club would make a decision without consulting it's members is dumb. you know better than me, after the shoes complained about gf venues last year. Maybe it was the straw that broke the camels back. SCA lost their balls, and subsequently lost one of the greatest clubs to play in their league. fact.

maybe cause you're asking the question on an opinipn based forum! If you're affiliated with the league, i'm sure you'll find out when the time's right. if you're not affiliated, why should you be contacted and told about everything??? you'll know when everyone else does. when the final decision is made i guess!!

I don't think we are the ones who need advice. You need to spend a little more time worrying about your own backyard. We will still be playing on out community/council venues(not that i see why this is such an issue) for years to come in ASCA. The same can't be said about those clubs playing in the SCA for years to come, sadly.
