My weather channel tells me expected forecast of 39 Saturday :(

As for the CUSA cup, i believe there needs to be some sort of reward/incentive for players as well as some sort of fine/punishment for players or clubs who dont make players available.

The end of season presentation should be a major event for the comp, acknowledging the performances of sides and individuals, the only problem is working out the right kind of shindig.

Perhaps a dinner with drinks? Make it mandatory for clubs to attend? If every side produced 5 or more players it would be a healthy crowd, also gives an opportunity to mingle and chat with players from other clubs. I think people would enjoy it once there, just gotta get them there first.

Maybe clubs could incorporate into the fees a cost for presentation night, that way its already paid for so they will feel more obligated to attend.

A team of the season would be a great idea.

This forum has been the best thing for the competition, a real buzz, when you have players talking about the competition and thinking about it more is a fantastic step towards building a stronger comp and perhaps encouraging more players to jump on board.

Finally, happy birthday Pidge, enjoy the night! ;)

With the CUSA games, the side this year played on turf twice. If in future they decide to play on turf what are the chances of looking at day/night games for CUSA? I know teams in the ATCA play LOC under lights, perhaps place a bye for the round and play it on a Sat arvo/evening.

Im sure the experience would interest players, also frees up Sunday and gives Saturday night for a bit of team bonding in the front bar :D ;)

It's worth investigating PG. I think you might know 1-2 ppl with connections to a ground with adequate lighting that fits the bill. ;)

Righteo, the CUSA Cup side for this Sunday is ;

Richard MARSHALL - Para Vista (Captain)
Shaun HOLLAND - Paralowie (Vice-Captain)
Shannon AISTROPE - Para Vista
Marc COSSENS - Para Vista
Aaron FRITH - Paralowie
Steven GIGLIO - Fitzroy
Eddie GRAHAM-VANDERBYL - Western Xl
Adam GULLY - Enfield
Tim HODSON - Para Vista
Robert MUIR - Western Xl
Brenton REIDY - Rose Park
Michael SPRY - Fitzroy

I think most will agree this is a strong line-up and I know the boys will give a solid representation of themselves and our Association on Sunday. And as mentioned before, all are welcome to come along and support the lads. It'd be great to see some familiar faces cheering the lads on. 8)

Am i the only one who disagrees with the points system???

In a one-dayer, extra points cannot be accrued by the chasing side. This makes is feasible that a dominant team that bowls teams out for less than 100 every week, will potentially lose 1 point per game or 12 points per season. That equates to 2 wins. In essense, a dominant team that wins every game can still finish second because of this.

Suburban award points for win, and loss. Not points for runs and wickets...this is where the percentage comes in.

Thoughts? Time for change?

You raise an interesting issue, Bloodybouncer.

I agree that the current system does slightly disadvantage strong sides who bowl first in one-day games. However, the impact of this is not nearly as bad as you suggest as

1) There are only 6 one-day games a season (currently), not 12
2) On average you will win the toss in 3 of the 6 one-day games (and presumably bat if you are concerned about this issue)
3) In the 3 one-day games (on average) where you bowl first, you are unlikely to thrash the opposition each time.
4) If your team is that dominant, you are likely to be well clear on top of the ladder regardless of which system is used.

The alternatives are
A) force one-day games to keep going once the team batting second chases down the total. This would not be preferred as nobody usually cares much about the game at this stage, and it just becomes "torture" for the losing team.
B) Change the system to a percentage based system as used in other comps. I would vote against this as the percentage system favours teams who declare their innings closed early and don't give their weaker batsmen a hit in "dead" games (as this is likely to lower their percentage). The points system we are using keeps the incentive going for teams to play second innings that are unlikely to produce results, and encourages weaker batsmen and bowlers to have a go, as there is no real penalty to the team if they get out, or concede many runs.

lot of if/buts/maybes there ecky !! we have to look at this simply rather than account for permutations and combinations. The fact still remains that a dominant team is disadvantaged by a possible 6 points

If you put as much effort into hitting runs as you do playing golf, you would hit a big score like Sparre.
