how many under 21s do u have playin sec 1? we have 7, plus 2 are 22 the other 2 are old fellas...we also have 6 junior teams, we r gonna be a force in a few years.

why have u boys never sent them out?[/quote]

We have 3 u21 (another 4 in sec 2 and another sec 1 who's on long-term injury list), 1 who's 22 i think, a couple about 23, i'm still on the right side of 30 (just), 1 @ 30, 1 @ 33, 1 @ 37 and a grandpa who's 45. one of our section 1 boys is only 16 and in the team as all rounder which is a great effort so he has plenty of u21 opportunites to come. I guess we need to get to meetings to find out about u21 team if the emails continue to come out so late...actually we probably need to get to meetings anyway.

I do play cricket, but only marginally better than I play footy. And you know my footy ability (which is rubbish).

After watching Robbie's 197 on the weekend, it has made me wonder who is the most entertaining batsman when on song?
I think most people would know it is probably Todd Roberts when he was, just ask south road about the hundred he made at edwardstown that day, but he is no longer in the comp!
Some players that are up there when on song would have to be:
Hopkins/McCormack/Russel King from WYC
Gill from Ramblers
Basso from Glenelg ANA as an opener and someon that can do it against the new ball
Greg Pritchard from Plympton
and even Mayze from south road, but he is only a hack but hits the ball clean..
I prob think most of the batters that have entertained adelaide and suburban over the years have departed and a 'new' generation is coming through!

Knowles and Press used to destroy bowling attacks in their day, but not always from hitting power, tho I remember them hitting 50 off 5 overs from Strange and Cramp at Hawthorndene oval after being sent in for 5 overs at the end of the first day many years ago.

Darren Cheek from Coro and Paul Durham for us were good to watch when they started teeing off.

Never saw the bloke, but from what I hear Carl Dilena was the best hitter of a cricket ball we've ever produced. Played in early-mid 80s when Ramblers won a couple of flags.

pressy is the cleanest hitter of a pull shot that iv seen with robbie hopkins! (i no your reading this richy so il remind people you got out to the pull shot your last two knocks tho) haha pressy very conventional hitting, and a pleasure to watch! i think that day was when knowlesy made his 156 or thereabouts against ur mob AF.

Good topic this one, all the best hitters i've played with/against have all pretty much finished up or moved on to other associations...

My 8 year exile from Section One means i've got no idea who's any good now, i remember some WY dude smacked me for 31 in one over of Section One (666616) he hit those pretty well, that was the beginning of the end for me!!

Scott Peek (Plympton, now at willunga, cleanest hitter i've ever seen)
Shane Pitt (Morphie Park, unsure if he's still alive, magnificent to watch back in the day)
Chris Hawes (Plympton, fair while ago A Grade skipper, landed one on the roof of edwardstown footy club, consistent 500-600 run/year batsman)

*Russel King (almost every club this side of henley beach road)

*Never saw him make a run against plympton in a game where i was playing

Pressy wouldnt read this,would he?

Heath Mckay smashed Geoff Stanley and the rest of PLymptons bowling attack to all parts of the ground two season ago for 175no....all in about 25 overs max. Fishbowl of a ground in West Beach primary, but still awesome hitting. He has to be up there.

I got to agree. Prob the cleanest striker of a ball when on that i have seen. Just very effortless and relentless. And he can hit the ball to any part of the ground so there is no where to bowl!

Pitt is still alive, but his extra-curricular activities look like they have taken a big toll. Plays in the lower grades at Morphys after brief stint at Plympton. Was the best player in the comp 10 years ago. My first ever bowl in Sect 1 was to Pitt when he was on about 60, first two balls went for 6 & 4, then a wide, then I bowled him...and to this day I'm still not sure why that ball didn't end up over deep mid wicket where he intended.

heath mckay mmm he is definitely a good batsman, prob entertaining because of his range of stroke play but not so much his big hitting, and west beach primary and hitting a six there doesn really count :D

haha yeah well i bet people get very excited about the minute size of the oval that they forget you still need to keep the good balls out and are often sent back to the "pavillion" without scoring. rumour has it thats a favourite past time of booneys this year

I would have to say Terry Martin is the most entertaining batsmen ive seen, regulary destroyed bowling attacks. Many a time a cricket ball has landed on the medium strip in the middle of Victoria Rd. His brother wasnt a bad cricketer either, Lindsay Martin smashed 100 of 20 balls with 13 sixes and 5 fours, in 29 minutes. Was a world record back then in 1987.

You'll keep.

Anyway, yes Todd is a very sweet hitter of the ball, but all of our judgment will be clouded by how often we see blokes play, often it is only once a year and that is not a very good indication.

I once say old Buggy at Seaton hit a mate of mine back over his head and it cleared the Boulevard and landed on the other side of West Lakes Boulevard. Good size oval,2 deep car park, big nature strip, 2 lanes, big median strip,2 more lanes and another big nature strip. I was at long on and it looked like a Boeing going over my head it was that far up.

Or we could sit here and talk about Cover King and all his Junior 100's......or was one of them in Seniors CK?

Although it is a biased view Todd Roberts is certainly the cleanest striker of a cricket ball i have ever seen. His ability to hit sixes from the first ball he faced is unrivalled IMHO. Another one which we have been lucky enough to have play for us(besides those already mentioned) is Jordan Wood who was also a very clean striker of the ball and is now playing out at Sturt District.

yeah mate one in the seniors haha under some illustrious leadership at the time that got me there though!!

i still remember the day where Karl Gill from ramblers decided to smash macca for 20 odd in the 2nd over of the day! was his first 6 balls faced.. at the youth centre, hit some balls straight into the tennis courts! that was some clean hitting that i have rarely seen since!
