Our off Spinner has hit a batsmen on the foot on the full we've appealled not out. The umpires said to the bowler it hit him in line but its missing off stump? I know there neutral umpires but why do some persist on giving reasons its not out just say. I know if I have an appeall given not out I dont even ask its not out thats the decision but still some try and give me a reason when im walking past without me saying a word.
Just a point I know there short but there not helping by putting themselves in the spotlight all the time.
What arm bowler was bowling, and what hand was the batsman? It should be assumed if the ball hits the batsman on the full that the ball is going straight-on, and so therefore if struck in-front then it would be going on-to hitting the stumps and therefore out.
But really the umpire could be correct, because if it were a right arm bowler to a left hand batsman (or the other way around) or even if it was a right handed bowler around the wicket to a right handed batsman (or the other way – left to left around the wicket) the umpire could think that even-though the ball has hit in line, it could be sliding past the off stump and therefore not-out.
