A fair few have in the past.

There should be consiquences for denying selection without a good excuse.
ie. 1st offence 1 match ban, 2nd offence 1 match ban for the capt and player, 3rd offence fines to the club + match bans.
Im sure that would get less people saying no

And what about if u are 35 years old, have played and run assoc games over 7 years. Guys have got to want to play. If the right blokes get asked we would still beat churches. I think they need to talk to clubs in gr 1,2 and get them to nominate blokes from their club who are good enough and want to play. Then captain and selector pick side. I would not base it on stats for the year cos they can be misleading if u only look at them over a few games.

what would be better is get the premiers from churches and PDCA to play each other and watch Salisbury West win outright on the first day 8)

Well the weather looks fine for Sunday so it appears as though our Twenty20 will be going ahead with round 1.

Both games will be played at Playford (Kalara Reserve, Davoren Park), come along and enjoy the hospitality, drink specials, bbq and a cricket bat raffle, it will be a great day with some exciting cricket on offer.

12 noon: Playford vs Eastern Park
3pm: Smithfield vs One Tree Hill

Welcome aboard One Tree Hill.

Wheres Craigmore????

Half way between Smithfield and One Tree Hill

Didn't Craigmore do pretty well in that comp last season? How come they aren't back?

You can't fine or suspend guys for not playing association games. This is parkland cricket, not test cricket. Some guys might have work, family commitments or be carrying injuries and to have to back up the next day might be just too much. If guys don't want to play then they don't, easy as that. The challenge for the association is make guys want to play. Get some sort of prestige and camaraderie going on. IMHO it's too late to change that this season, because you can't slap together a group of guys and expect them to gel. Why don't we select a squad over the winter of the guys we expect to be around the mark in and try to get some net sessions or centre wicket trainings somewhere maybe once a month and some sort of social outing. Guys can be added as they show form in the new season and hopefully when the first game comes along there's more interest. Would be more work and mightn't get the desired result but it would have a better chance than ringing around on the thursday trying to get a hold of people.

I might be wrong but made the GF without losing a game and then got hammered. There was a phone around to see if players were interested and it seems there was not enough interest this year.

Twenty 20 is pretty popular.. I would've thought people would be jumping at the opportunity. One Tree Hillbilly's jumped in pretty quick.. good luck to them! I assume PDCA aren't doing their Wednesday night 20/20 comp anymore.
Are any other clubs In PDCA running similar comps outside of the regular program?

One Tree Hill had requested to join all through winter, it just works so much better with only 4 sides, everyone gets a home double-header. The Wednesday 20/20 just got too much, it was every 2nd week and travelling out to Sandy Creek made it hard or even Brahma for us, some had to go straight from work etc.

Yeah 4 teams works well... I remember Wednesday limited peoples ability to get there on time. Was pretty hard especially if you worked in the city etc. Maybe one day they will have a fresh look at it and include it into their program...Or run it on sundays, like Grade cricket, as a seperate comp.

Not in the near future Luke, it gets brought up every AGM and there's bugger all interest from the clubs unfortunately, we have 30+ players putting their hands up for a game.

I reckon its the future of the game... its limited commitment (of time) and there is always something happening. Caters to the current generation who have limited focus and get bored easily. Too many outside things to take kids focus away from cricket. ie: cars, girls, binge drinking... girls etc

Unfortunately your attitude Groover is in the minority. I'm with you, I would play if asked but there's no room for a No 11 batter who only bowls 2 overs a year.

More people are needed who want to play. Maybe the teams ask their players and the club forwards the names on. Then the association picks the best team from the names available. A bit of pride is needed. Who would want to lose to a rival association? Bit like State of origin.

It should be promoted as representing your club on a higher level. The club with most representatives take the most pride by promoting the fact.

Spot on !

Plenty of guys have done their time and are now getting older with other priorities. Sunday cricket is not the most attractive thing to a lot of guys these days.

The carrot is getting a gig on Adelaide Oval and the players know that.....if it doesn't float their boat then look elsewhere to those that want to play.....what bigger incentive is there than Adelaide Oval ? If that doesn't interest guys, so be it...

yeah but in recent years there was always only going to be one comp playing on the oval, so that carrot didnt have many people chasing it.. not one comp would compete with turf [not even B&L  ].. maybe instead of a single comp getting a chance to play on the oval, there should be the 3 games played as usual and then maybe 2 teams made up of 6 players from each comp.. then churches and turf v suburban and PDCA on the oval.. i know it defeats the purpose of association games but it might get people keen if they are a chance to be one of the six picked to play a one day game on the adelaide oval.. just a thought.. shoot me down now..
I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes.
