Have heard Concordia (COCCC'ers) have lost none this year and have Bjorn 'to be alive' Petersen back and a couple of others back. They still have only one player in Watson (if still around). Unley has Kenyan Collins Obuya returning this year from 20/20 World Cup. The Big O has comitted for the full season and will add some middle order batting to the line up, will be interesting how much his batting has improved since giving leg spin a miss after fininshing 8th highest wicket tacker in 2003 World Cup with Andy Bichel (13 wkts).

I have also heard that Luke Hosie will be making a comeback to cricket after he guides Seaton Ramblers this football season!!

I believe the Dukes are signing a couple of quality recruits which will add greatly to the depth at Rosella St.

Lots of vicious rumours floating around at this time of year:

Pulteney have pick up Tamblyn and Ashmead from Sturt, will more than cover the loss of old man Ritossa (even though he is a fair chance to pull on the spikes at some stage),

AHOS are having talks with and have almost signed a new keeper and a gun bat from Mt Gambier - have signed an all-rounder and an opening bat/leg spinner - will help cover the losses of Thomas (opening bat) and Cornelius.

Crichton has left Flinders Park to try out for West Torrens - should go alright too......

Here we go again.......I can see a repeat of last seasons debacle

The program for the 2007/08 season is only days away.

As always there will be some clubs who feel that they have been hard done by when it comes to playing the home/away ratio. It is a fact that the computer package cannot cope with the vast array of variables that our association throws at it. Our computer engineer/programmer is constantly writing programs to accommodate some of these variables and it is anticipated by next season everyone should be reasonable happy. If anyone has a package that can accommodate our 50 clubs with 220 teams playing over 1300 games and expect to get even 50/50 home/away ratio, please let me know.

One of the many hurdles we have is that some clubs have a two day team sharing a ground with their one day team or another clubs one day team. Even if your club has not got this mix, this scenario will snowball through the whole competition.

Most of the two day teams should be reasonably happy but when it comes to the Limited Overs teams, some will have good reason to complain. The programming committee feels that a 9/9 ratio is perfect, a 8/10 and 7/11 ratio is satisfactory with anything below that probably not satisfactory but unavoidable, and there are some. Unfortunately nothing can be done this season as the snowball effect is phenomenal, but the complaint will be noted, and every effort will be made next season to make sure you get a ratio in your favour.

Some clubs have also put in a wish list. While these requests were considered very few came to fruition because of the snowball effect. These clubs can act on their own requests when the list of spare grounds becomes available.

24 clashes could not be avoided (12 games) compared with 178 last season. These games have been allocated a neutral ground. The two effected teams can change the allocated venue if they wish and ATCA will share the hire costs with the two teams.

Some teams are yet to nominate a ground. Those teams have been allocated a TBA ground. Those teams are responsible for liaising with their opposition and the curators regarding venues, pitch preparation, change rooms and any other aspects to make a game of cricket. The cost will be met by that team/club.

To help out with the above three paragraphs ATCA will supply, on request, a list of spare grounds for the season (some weeks there may not be any). It will also be posted on ATCAs web site.

When the draw comes out in the next couple of days please take all of the above into consideration.

I don't understand what your on about beer o'clock. Merely pasted what is on the ATCA website. The fixtures were a debacle last season and it appears we are headed down the same path this season from what has been posted on the ATCA website. Can't remember a problem with the fixtures in any other season and I have been playing in the ATCA for about 10 seasons. Are you sure you're not on the ATCA board beer o'clock?

I think you might see him front up for the Rechabites this year instead. Handy replacement for Duffett.

Have heard he may be on the cards for AHOS but is a long shot at best. Allrounder they've picked up is from Athelstone I think.....

Ian Butchart. Not a bad player but he is getting on in years.

Have seen the draw for Unley, all looks good with that. I think where the great Rick was going with the message is with C1,2 & 3 and the LO grades. The last couple of years our LO side has played about 70% away, when scheduled for home the ground is unavailable (Vic Park) due to horse trials and Clipsal 500. Interesting last season that Vic Park was free on 6 weekends that Unley and the team they share with (Concordia I think) were both away but when Horse trials and Clipsal was on they program games on it. Marroitt was good at programming, maybe he could do some community service and prepared the fixtures?

I would like to question the ATCA as to why we are again scheduled to play on Test Match weekend? This is ridiculous! Surely after what happened last year, when everyone made it clear that Test Match weekend should be free of cricket, the ATCA should have taken notice and not programmed cricket on this weekend! Even A grade district aren’t playing on the Test weekend. I suggest to all turf cricketers if you are not happy with this arrangement to get your club secretary contact Mr Darling and push for a one-day fixture in Round 8!

There is still no program out for the LO & C grades. The season is now less than 3 weeks away and I know there are several clubs who dont have ovals for some of their teams who are waiting for this program to come out to see what ovals are available. It doesnt give clubs much time at all and it doesnt sound like the program will be coming out til this Friday at the earliest.

The problem is Shark Hunter is that the ATCA is run by monkeys and there are people from the elite premier league clubs pulling the strings behind the scene's. They want to play on the Test Match Weekend amongst other things and seem to get what they want at the drop of a hat. The system in place now is best suited for the elite clubs and makes these clubs stronger and the weaker ones weaker. How can relegating a clubs A grade team from A3 to B1 to bring up a clubs 2nd team from B1 to A3 in lieu strengthen this club? The system is designed for the premier league elite clubs. Makes it very hard for these weaker clubs to recruit players when they are in B1.

The solution to avoid playing cricket on the Test Match Weekend is to make every competition a 10 team competition and play 9 x 2 dayers which means only 18 weeks of cricket instead of 12 clubs and 21 weeks of minor round cricket. This avoids the need for programming on the test match weekend but try telling the peanuts running the ATCA this.

I am from an A1 club and I can tell you right now that none of our A grade players want to be playing on Test Match weekend (I don't pay my SACA membership for nothing!)
Nor do I really want to be playing in 40 degree heat. These are the exact reasons I stopped playing Grade Cricket and now in what is supposed to be an AMATEUR comp they think we are semi-professionals - shit, I still pay subs!
