What about the clubs that have juniors playing in A1-A3? Do they play short because they have had their age level called off? I don't understand how you can have juniors called off, because it is unsafe, but if they are good enough to be playing a high grade it is suddenly safe for them?

Taken off Adelaide Now website today..

A SIGNIFICANTLY higher than average number of sudden deaths have occurred on the third consecutive day of 40C-plus temperatures.

Since midnight, police have attended sudden deaths at 14 separate addresses across the metropolitan area.

Police could not confirm the deaths were heat-related - however, they did say the number of sudden deaths was "significantly higher" than average.

SUBURBS WHERE "SUDDEN DEATHS" HAVE OCCURRED TODAY

8.25am - BEVERLEY
8.25am - GREENACRES
9.01am - PENFIELD
9.01am - SALISBURY DOWNS
9.17am - PROSPECT
9.55am - WATTLE PARK
10.33am - GILBERTON
10.35am - RICHMOND
10.45am - BEAUMONT
11.02am - KURRALTA PARK
11.29am - SOUTH PLYMPTON
11.32am - KENSINGTON GARDENS
11.41am - CUMBERLAND PARK
12.51pm - ENFIELD

The SA Ambulance Service and the Health Department have called a joint media conference for later today.

SA Ambulance corporate communications manager Megan Cree said that despite this being the third day of a heatwave, the service was still collating data.

"We are not saying anything until the press conference," she said.

"We are currently looking through the statistics."

Health Minister John Hill was "busy in his electorate office with constituents" and would not be commenting, a government spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said SA Health chief medical officer Professor Paddy Phillips would reiterate his earlier advice about what people needed to do to keep cool.

She said it was not possible to say how many sudden deaths "were attributable to the heat".

"Obviously, heat is an issue in exacerbating chronic or existing conditions, but it is difficult once we start getting into numbers," the spokeswoman said.

"Nobody at this stage can say 'this many people have died because of the heat'. I don't think anybody knows at the moment."

who's your mate?

re the heat policy , i'm in the camp of the "we should play" but with drinks every 10 overs.
However, i recognize that opinions amongst players are so varied that it creates an awkward situation where say 1/2 the side wants to play and the other 1/2 dont - consequently the universal association heat policy seems to be the best option (even if i dont like it).

Craig Cooper. I used to play district at Adelaide with him.

The SACA should be announcing their decision on this weekend's matches very soon. Just checked the latest forecast from BoM and it is a max of 40. I would be leaning towards play on.

Received an e mail today with the following quote attached 'Fail to prepare, prepare to fail' and even now it is probably too late.

IMO ASCA should call the games off now. Hard wicket comps on the back of 4 days of 40+ should not play if the forecast is revised to 39.

I would like to hear an explanation from someone that plays in ATCA on why you would have such a policy?

What retarded decision making. Either it is deemed safe to play or it isnt. Grades reflect a players skill, not their tolerance to extreme weather conditions.

Exactly. We have fat blokes in our A side that probably went to the BDO last night who would be way more likey to suffer from heat stress to some young bloke in our B grade side whose game has been cancelled!!
