Strong indications given last night of a change in Grade Cricket set-up. A hint was given it might involve two divisions.
Comments anyone ?

A number of players were called to a meeting late last year by Jamie Siddons to discuss the formation of a "Super League". Many issues need to be sorted for it to be a goer.

What indications were given? We know there will be no 'superleague' next season, but I dont see how a 2 division comp would work - 1 because the un even number of teams and 2 its pointless sides playing each other every 3 games. It still does nothing for the 'quality' of the cricketer.

What is happening is some clubs are becaoming far more professional on and off the field. The Jnr set ups/coaching and the standard and methods of training are far different from 3-5 years ago. This hopefully means the younger talent develop further and quicker to increase the standard of not only the grade comp but our state stocks as well. It will take time for these kids to come through though and the clubs that arent seen to be adopting the more professional approach should be punished.

I dont want to bad mouth Port (I think they have done a great job in turning there club around to an extent) but from what i have witnessed, they have slipped again in regards to there lower grades and jnr set up. Some examples that arent good enough for any district club at any level are: they cant fill an under U/16 white side, they had a kid who plays U/14s play D grade along side 5x30+ year olds of average physical fitness and cricket ability, they filled their BankSA side with girls (no disrespect to the females and good on them for playing) and the U/16 reds warmed up with 2 kids having no shoes on (many werent in club attire also)......

All valid.

Within 5 years 20% of eligible players will live in Northern's catchment area and 10% in Southern's. Big decisions will need to be made.

To not confuse the issue too much:
Ian McLachlan made no mention of splitting the competition into two divisions. However, he did say that major changes are on the cards in the next two years, with not only the number of teams to be reviewed but also major improvements on playing surfaces etc. He hinted that the Adelaide Oval redevelopment and additional money coming into SACA will make this all possible.

It was Barry Jarman, being interviewed in a a 'Where Are They Now' segment who suggested he would like to see two divisions brought in, with the bottom two of the first division relegated and replaced by the top two of the second division each year.

Good to also see James Smith and Trent Kelly named in the team of the year. Also great to see my offsider, Greg Stanford, a man who basically breathes 'West Torrens' being nominated as our club volunteer of the year. Great to see Jammo win it - he gives a huge amount for TTG and has done for many a year.

Cheers

McLachlan made it clear that changes are going to happen. Jarman then added his opinion that two divisions were the way to go, giving the impressioin that he had a voice but still had to convince others.
I agree with FS. This would be messy, and there is some really exciting talent within the junior ranks at the moment.

Good luck to all teams playing in grand finals this weekend.
Nerves are already getting up... and all I have to do is score (and not keep Luke or Andy on one leg for too long!)
Cheers
P.S. I forgot to congratulate Lauren Ebsary on winning the Karen Rolton Medal for the best player in Women's A Grade. Well done, Lauren. Now just bring home the premiership trophy! :)

West Torrens are the ones in a fair bit of trouble at stumps, 5/58 chasing Woodville's 164.
Some brilliant slip catches by the Woodville corden of Aaron Sayers, Stray and Wells.

Who made the 140 SH?

My mistake, Adams made 133, still a decent knock!
Eagles all out for 77 at the A grade this morning. Trying hard to stay in the game but at 1/70 Woodville are edging closer and closer to putting Torrens out of the contest. Would still be 55 or so over left in the day....
