Have to say. Driving around the Hills for work at the moment and all the grounds are in great condition.
Callington in particular is alot different to the when we would play out there about 10-15 years ago in U14s. I swear there used to be rocks and sand all over that oval.
Even my beloved Hill at Wistow is mostly green these days

I wouldn't say ALL the grounds. Nairne was a sand pit the other week and Hahndorf not looking great today.

Round 4 done & dusted and the topsy turvy results continue.

L Creek bounced back from their debacle last week to post a comfortable win over Hahndorf who looked a chance of reeling in the Tigers 8/212 being 1/92 at one stage before losing their last 9 wickets for 47.

Strath easily accounted for Macclesfield by 8 wickets tho the Redbacks were still competitive batting out their 45 overs losing only 6 wickets.

one of the flag favourites Lobethal are really struggling to fire as they failed the test in their Grand Final rematch against Nairne by making a paltry 60 in reply to the Razorbacks 9/160 which saw the return of Luke Harrowfield which will boost their chances of going back to back.

Woodside came back to earth with a massive thud after last weeks shock demolition of L Creek by being completely outplayed by their nemesis in Bremer / Callington who have incurred quite a few upset wins over Woodside in recent years. Cally made 9/180 an in rely Woodside were never in the hunt with stand in captain Tommy Baldock the only batter to make double figures , making 60 of the teams 108

Looks like being a very unpredictable season more than ever which is a good thing.

Those are 2 of the grounds I haven't been to but have to agree after seeing some vision from Nairne yesterday that it was definitely a sandpit.

Yeah another unpredictable round pretty exciting season so far.

A month of the season done already..

Paracombe 3-0 The surprising ladder leaders, experienced top order making the bulk of their runs and managing to defend a couple of modest tallies
Palmer 2-1 Have lost half their GF team from last season, including highly influential T. Rathjen. Hasn’t stopped them recovering from an opening loss to Birdwood to chalk up two wins since
Gumeracha 2-1 Collapse in Round 1 v Paracombe but have been winning since. Will again be the team to beat
Eden Valley 2-2 Strong opening to the season before losses to Gum and Palmer. Have a solid team on paper, perhaps a bowler short though
Birdwood 1-2 Round 2 victory against Palmer ended lengthy losing run. Stronger batting line up than prior years but lacking bowlers
Cambrai 1-3 Missing a few regulars in the early rounds, should recover and play finals yet again.
Lenswood 1-3 The opposite situation to Birdwood at Lenswood, a reasonable bowling line up when on song but 3 straight double digit scores indicates batting is very thin

In the B’s it’s early days but a youthful Lenswood sit as ladder leaders although Cambrai will be my early tip for the flag. Gumeracha are looming as the other major threat if they field their strongest 11, while Paracombe and Eden Valley will also push for finals spots. Birdwood have improved, while the other Lenswood side and Palmer will battle it out for the spoon.

Woodside hit back from last weeks poor effort to show Hahndorf are very unlikely to be part of the finals mix this season.

In the match of the round Lobethal eventually got the better of Strath as Ben Mathews with 70 odd got the points for the Northern Tigers.
Strath had a remarkable collapse to be bowled out for 138 after the in form Matt Harris (69) guided them to a strong position at 1/115 only to see them lose 9/23

L Creek got the job done as expected over Macclesfield on the turf at the Creek without too many dramas although The Redbacks certainly showed they're no pushovers and i've no doubt will cause a few headaches for higher credentialed teams for the rest of the season.

Hahndorf v Nairne was scheduled to be at the new Summit ground but due to the rain they haven't quite been able to get it ready in time so it's been moved back to Hahndorf Oval. Nairne should win pretty easily though.

Woodside should be too good for Maccy at home.

Match of the round would be Lobethal v Langhorne Creek both teams seem to have had quite a few changes each week so hard to pick a winner with this one. 50-50 game.

Bremer Callington v Strath should be a good one as well. Will be interesting to see how the pitch will go with all the rain this week. I'll go with BC at home.

Pitch at Mt Barker would have been ready but they dont have any covers Can you believe it? Spend $20 million on a venue that is spruiked as being 1st class standard and then dont even purchase covers Debacle.

Cally should be fine, they're organised having bought new covers.

Did they buy them during the week? Because apparently there was none ready on the weekend meaning as soon as it rained there was no chance of play.
Agree about the rule book. Usually depends on who wants to keep playing depending on who needs the result. A bit trickier when you don't have an umpire as well.

Friday Nov 5th i believe Cally got their new covers.
Only the 1 set i think so their 2nd oval is still at the mercy of the elements.



With the rain interfering with matches.

Games CAN NOT be reduced in length (overs wise) once the game has started.
It can only be reduced in the case of a DELAYED start of more than 30 minutes.

The rules regarding all this are CLEAR & CONCISE and it's the responsibility of EVERY captain and in particular EVERY APPOINTED PAID umpire ($126 for A Grade) to know these rules and enact them when required.
It is beyond belief that 2 A Grade Captains and a Paid Appointed umpire all were apparently unaware of these rules despite being able to access them on your phone in 30 seconds and proceed to make up their own rules in order to get a result.
Makes an absolute MOCKERY of the rules and credibility of the competition

No idea how bad it was and umpires should not have to cop it but lets just say i'm not surprised.

Round 7 down and ALL A grade teams have played each other once.

The Premiership race appears to be down to 5 teams with Nairne leading the charge atm 1 win clear of Lobethal with Woodside, Creeks and Strath level on 4 wins each.

Hahndorf were expected to struggle this year but maybe not as much as their results from the last few weeks. Saturday against Strath they got off to a solid start being 0/41 before sensationally collapsing, losing 10 33 to be bowled out for 74 as Strath knocked the runs off without loss to boost their NRR which could play a vital role come the seasons end.

The inconsistent Creek Tigers got the job done without too many dramas over the dangerous Cally Cobras who just need to find that extra 10 - 15% in performance to convert competitive performances into Wins

Lobethal as expected comfortably beat a depleted Woodside team

Macclesfield were again very competitive as they've been in every game this season in their return to A Grade batting their overs out to make 144 against Nairne and then have them under pressure at 4/67 before Mitch Hein and youngster Llewellyn put on 80 odd to seal the win.

Agree Macclesfield have been very promising thus far. Was watching their B Grade on the weekend and they're a very solid team as well.

Crazy game at Strath. Nairne sent into bat and bowled out for 97 and then defended it!!! Strath bowled out for 73 off of 40 overs so scoring looked pretty hard all day.

Maccy have turned their very competitive form into a WIN over one of the top fancies in Lobethal.

Bremer Cally continue to disappoint overal going down to Hahndorf who have been walloped in recent weeks

Creeks are quickly falling out of favour as a serious contender by getting hammered by Woodside for the 2nd time this season. Creeks bowlers just cant get it right by consistently giving up huge wide totals each week which is very costly. There's little excuse even allowing for the tight leg side interpretation as many of the other teams are limiting their wides to reasonable levels. Creeks bowled 27 wides Saturday compared to Woodsides 3

4 relatively close matches Saturday with no real surprises in a low scoring round.

Woodside have had heaps of trouble with Bremer Cally the last season or 2 and looked in trouble again before forming a partnership in the run chase to see them home.

Maccy had yet another creditable loss which im sure they're getting sick off, going down to Strath by only 20 runs

Game of the round was Nairne v Lobey on the Turf at the Summit oval and it was a real grind for the batters as Lobey scrapped their way to 124. Nairne looked gone at 6/49 in reply but Shane Kenney got them home with 60* and 2 wickets to spare.

Creeks accounted for Hahndorf as expected tho not without a few stumbles.
Newcomer for the Magpies in Paul Allegretto may well cause opposition bowlers some headaches going forward if he continues playing, only made 19 but looked very stylish and it took a peach of a ball to rattle his stumps. Handy bowler as well.
