There are two other clubs that are effectively putting their C grade teams in the A grade, and even putting up under 16's in their A grade in an attempt to make up the numbers. Hope the poor kids dont lose interest because of their clubs inevitable poor performances.

If Reynella is leaving the competition's A grade, then it is effectively making the competition weaker. There isnt enough players to go around for an SCA competition with 8 (or more) strong clubs. Reynella has only made this situation worse. I'm glad Reynella is strong enough to have 22 players spare for the ATCA comp, some clubs dont have the luxury of chosing from 22 players.

It just makes you wonder what future the SCA has...

Good call Dutchman, did Reynella recruit many new players for their turf move? What is the standard of cricket they are moving too, and how well is their pitch going to play. Just think the first season, after just being laid, plenty of footy games and training and now with water restrictions. Be interesting to see how it plays.

Reynella have not got any new recruits to date, one of there players has come back form the bush to play for them as he got posted back with work.

They had a couple of young blokes from rival SCA clubs who played at the stingrays last year come and train with them but when the captain found out that they were training with Reynella he rang them up and promised them the earth and they went back to there SCA club.

The pitch is looking okay at present but it will be intertesing to see how it plays. Both the current curator and the worlds best curator who has had input into the pitch are happy with it's condition.

Duthcy do you think that if your blokes didn't want to have a few beers and took it a bit more serious that you would be okay for numbers?? I am not saying that having a beer is a bad thing but maybe waiting until the conclusion of the game to have one. Some of your blokes should not of been playing D Grade last year as they were of much higher standard than that.

I think credit must be given to Reynella for giving a tougher competition a crack. I don't see how Reynella staying would have helped the struggling clubs it would have just mean't that the Reynella A and B Grade would have been another opposition to flog these weaker sides and this still wouldn't have helped the competition at all.

IMO Reynella should be given credit for keeping there C Grade in SCA and there Under 14 side as it would have been easy to move the whole lot to Adelaide Turf and try and recruit players from other local clubs.

The standard of Adelaide Turf that they have moved to will be good tough cricket and equal to low B Grade high C Grade SACA. Most clubs good players are really good, but some teams are held back by there depth.
The standard that there B Grade side will be playing I have not come accross so it is hard to make any comparisions.

Anyway good luck to Reynella as they take the challenge up of another competiton rather than staying in the SCA racking up premiership after premiership across the grades.

In finishing I think the one person that is carrying on the most may just be showing signs of being jealous of Reynella.

The Reynella to Adelaide Turf move has been thrown around for 20 years, no surprise there.
Eventually they'll move altogether I think but credit to them for leaving sides in the SCA at this stage.
A lot of Reynella people have done heaps of work over the years for the SCA and they are easily the most successful so I don't think people should be critical of them.
A lot of other sides in the past 15 years have left the comp.........Aldinga, Happy Valley, McLaren. WIllunga in 81 I think.

Christies, Hackham and Mawson have folded.
No one on here has mentioned the fact that Happy Valley deserted the competition but came knocking on the door to the SCA for a place to play their juniors.

Good luck Reynella, hope it all works out and FFS can the SCA and GSCA merge please.

Did Christies fold or did they become Southern Districts and move into low grade SACA? I am not sure myself of this was just something that I was told one day.

I am pretty sure ATCA would be keen to get another club down this way to join up so that they started to get a bit more even spread of teams. Rather than being dominated by Northern Clubs.

Christies had 2-3 senior grades and 2 junior sides in 1988 and got told to move from Bice oval .
They played a further 2 seasons on CBHS east oval before folding.
Effectively they were pushed and had to fold.
And stingrays were born.

i'm unsure as to whether i'm on the SFL or the SCA thread, seems like a common theme, where alot of people question the League or association in this case, and talk a s**tload about reynella. on to this weeks games:

Pt. Noar. V Cove
M. Vale V Kang
Noar. V S. Rise

Any tips? Not sure on ins and outs for some teams, obviously tanner out for porties, and good luck to him hope he can have a real crack at district level. Noarlunga: a few past players back. Looks like a reasonable week first up. On last years form all games should be pretty tight.

Dont get me wrong i wish Reynella all the best and i cant blame them for leaving. In fact Punter, there probably is some jealously that my club isnt as proactive to make the same move. There is no doubt Reynella could do well in the turf comp, especially if they joined a fewyears ago when Hopkins, Gabb and Francis where in their prime. No doubt these blokes will be able to make the turf team competitive at the least.

My post is stemming from the leagues decision to allow Reynella to remove their A grade team while forcing other clubs to play in an A grade competition they are clearly not suitable for.

Some clubs would be lucky to fill three teams this year without ringing around on a Thursday to see who wants a hit. I know our club will struggle in A grade competition this year. To fill a first eleven it will mean playing a few under 16s. How are they going to feel about cricket after fielding for probably two innings each game in 40 degree heat and making no runs?

Its just an unfortunate situation for the lower clubs and the competition. And dont say we arent trying! We have tried advertising, contacted schools and SACA to help the player numbers situation, and unless we offer money to players from other competitions the situation is looking grim. Do we want the competition to get into this situation of paying players to make 600-700 runs a year and take 30-40 wickets?

Hound - the only way our club can get players to play is to have a few beers and make it a social affiar. The A grade doesnt drink during games, but the lower grades like to enjoy themselves and play in the same team as their mates, otherwise they wouldnt turn up which would be an even worse situation for our club and the competition. Our club only has a few dedicated cricket players. The rest are footballers who only have minimal cricket experience, but are talented sportsman and play cricket because they are bored on weekends. The thought of playing a game over two weekends doesnt excite these footy blokes! The cricketers that once held the club together are 40+ and the younger blokes are doing their best to hold the club together now.

Tips for this weekend - Seaford, Kangarilla and Porties.

SCA cricket called off in some areas today Umpires at Port took 15minutes to call off did not rain all day and said the run ups were soft.I reserve the comment of what was really soft. This Association unfortunately is going down hill in a big way. The move of Reynella I thought was the end of their club as we know it maybe there the ones who could see what is happening or where it seems to be going. It probably will fall on deaf ears as there is not much response on this site from SCA people

You know my thoughts on it Observer.
Unfortunately I don't have a say anymore, someone down there has to make some hard decisions.
Is it true that flaggies have pulled out * their B Grade side ?
Aldinga - GONE
Mawson - GONE
McLaren Districts - GONE
Willunga - GONE
Happy Valley - GONE
Christies Beach - GONE

Reynella, Sullies - ALMOST GONE

ICC Sharks ( 7 sides), Sheidow Park ( 6 sides), SOuthern, Woodcroft - ALL SHOULD BE PLAYING SCA.

Damning statistics these are.

I never played in the SCA comp. But by reading some of the posts on here about clubs losing sides and players.

Is it time that the likes of Churches, SCA and Adelaide & Suburban amalgamate to make one big hard wicket competition?

You can't really class McLaren Districts, Willunga and Aldinga as losses reflecting the current state of the SCA as they all went over 10 years ago and Willunga more than 20 years ago....

I got sounded out about playing back at 'Pongy this year. Smithy try this site:

http://victorharbor.yourguide.com.au/news/sport/general/cricket-scoreboard-271007/1079127.html

GSCA this year:

A grade
Goolwa
Compass
Dingy
McLaren District
Encounter Bay
Willunga

A2 grade (WTF??)
Pongy
Yank
Port Elliot
Victor
Rapid Bay
Compass

B grade
Goolwa
Compass
Dingy
McLaren District
Encounter Bay
Willunga

C Grade (Div 1)
Goolwa
Myponga
Victor
McLaren District
Rapid Bay
Willunga

C Grade (Div 2)
Yank
McLAren Districts
Dingy
Mt Compass
Enc Bay
Port Elliot

MAte that is just from one round of matches not sure of any Byes but I doubt it looking at all teh teams vertainly no other seperate clubs.

Goods to see RApid Bay still struggling along noone lives there they just rely on teh local from around Delamere and the Cape. Strange not seeing a Putland in the Rapid Bay team though....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Thanks for that 1980TM.

I was using all the recent previous clubs as an example of how downhill the association has gone on the past 20 years.

In fact I just realise I missed hackham in that list.............

I didn't want to be REALLY critical and add, Ridge Road, Myponga, Sellicks, Seaford, McLaren Vale, McLaren Flat, Yankalilla, Clarendon etc

150 percent increase in population..

40 percent decrease in participation

It doesn't add up.....

Thanks for the GSCA clubs by the way,, I can now put forward a proposal to the SCA to hopefully create a Greater Southern Cricket ASsociation
