very disappointing to not get play underway yesterday at hewett oval. the fundamentals of the spirit of the game were definetely not upheld and far from every reasonable effort was made to get a start.

with light showers falling on a ground that dries up extremely quickly and forecast to clear up imminently, there was very little effort made to get a start, with the rationale that it would be 'unfair' to the team batting first. the day was called off at exactly 2pm and i could understand this would be the case should there be clear indications that the ground would be unfit for play and there be a risk of injury to any players, however this was not the case.

my concern here is that certain people were way too quick to call it off, or at least hang around for a while to give the game a chance of play, not to be wanting to call it off at 1:30pm. when the opposition left, we played a 25 over scratch match under perfect playing conditions and absolutely zero slipping on the pitch. we then went 1km down the road to watch coro v coro ramblers B grades play on exactly the same permanent matting on a similar grass length ground and these guys had no problem getting their full allotted 60 overs in.

'every reasonable effort should be made to get play underway', this fundamental of the spirit of the game was greatly compromised yesterday and not adhered to and once again was highly disappointing. all 11 coromandel players left the ground yesterday very unimpressed and disappointed. i will reiterate by stating this is solely my opinion and im sure some may agree whilst others may not.

I thought it was generally regarded as a disadvantage to the bowling side when it was raining, slippery run up, wet ball etc.

We got underway at Nth Haven about an hour late once we were happy with the concrete run up area being safe.
North Haven played to the situation, scoring quickly knowing the overs were reduced, so i dont think they saw batting as a disadvantage.

Jabber please stop coming up with the same old excuses ! This is not AFL football where kids are going to hang around and develope. They might be here one year and gone the next. There is no coaching whatsoever to make them that much better .You have what you have and it doesnt matter how old they are in this comp. They're either good enough or they're not ...... Look at Pressy and Danny Miller the cricket they produce at their age so to me its a load of crap this age thing !

What doesnt help though is that there are a number of cricketers who have been around for a number of seasons who are not producing and they're not being made accountable .

Get that old PFCC winning mentality back where it was ruthless and arrogant !

Do they play turf cricket in section 2??

Nah I wouldn't think they would be looking to change. A lot of their history is in ASCA and with the way they are going now, they wouldnt exactly be playing in the highest division of turf..

Keswick Cricket Club is not too far removed from its 'glass house' when it comes to how well curated any of its grounds are, so i don't think the Keswick Cricket Club can throw too many stones.

actually marymount, where we have been for a few seasons now is one of the best grounds in the comp. good size, well maintained, better than the hardwicket/turf pitch we saw at plympton on saturday
