you said the best batsman you ever saw was Rob Abbott, you have got to be joking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
couldnt find the middle of the bat if they were bowling beach balls at him
He never failed when the pressure was on.
His first innings for WDCC was that famous game 58 to 56, he made a first ball 0.
His last innings that year in the G/f v Port districts was 64 not out after being 7/83,
we were chasing 178 to win.
In about 10 finals he played in his lowest score was about 15.
He is now a taxi driver and a compulsive gambler[what a lifestyle]
STANDARDS OF CRICKET
------------------------------
Booney I will reserve judgement on the Southern Comp WYC now plays in, BUT
I have to say the standard has dropped appreciably over the years in other comps.
The 70/80's there were a lot of kids playing in hard wicket comps and the standard
was very high, most were talented competitive athletes.
My longevity in cricket was due to a falling standard as I played in the same divisions.
In the early 80s I faced some very fast bowlers , like Vincent, Cooper, Zapotezny etc
in division 2, the bowlers I faced in that division in the 90's were not as good.
As a pensioner in the 2000's I still managed to score runs in ICCA +CHURCH leagues,
and still take wickets.
In div ones the standard is still par these days, but as you get lower its easier now
compared to the Mal golden years.
PS
In 1993 I bowled 6 balls to BOONEY for 0-0-0-0-0-1
