Think the proposal for next season for A Grade is 7 two day games, 6 one day games and six 20/20 matches.

Fairer system for Div 1 as every team plays each other once, plus less Sunday cricket as well.

The one day and 20/20 comps involve all 13 clubs, so think the idea is you play every club in either of the comps. Makes sense.

Will West Torrens be looking for a new coach with the large suspension of the current one?

If he was coaching next year he was not attending matches, doing all the main work a coach does but once the game starts they aren’t required. Did that a lot over last two seasons, maybe does the warm up then spends time with his young family.

So basically the suspension is irrelevant, SACA were out to get him and will think they have, but in reality he wasn’t going to be at the games anyway. Along with Russell Thompson he is clearly one of the best coaches going around who the players love, so business as usual you would think.

Would the suspension also mean he couldn't be involved during the week as well?
SACA are pathetic. Too many hacks and Tim Nielsen acolytes remaining and needs more cleaning out.

Don't think so, just not allowed during the match. So in effect, no penalty really. Cricket run by the captains on game day.

Question has to be asked if the captains run gameday why is he involved in anything at all on game day resulting in a suspension in the first place?
Coaches need to be there game day in my opinion, maybe a day here or there but it would have to be part of the employment.

Why? Not a lot of influence a cricket coach can have game day except bouncing ideas. All the work should be done in the lead up and the captain should be capable of taking the reigns game day.

Coach just becomes a glorified spectator game day - particularly if you're talking first grade.

Cricket is largely just analytical and tweaking strategies these days - Frogbox allows live stream + replays which is also a game changer.

Set KPI's, show a bit of vision during the week if you need, provide critical feedback after matches with some highlights for examples.. trust the captain to run the show with the plans you've laid out.

Don't need to be walking laps of the oval watching cricket for 6 hours just because you're the coach... can't see it having any impact on the game.

Yeah it really comes down to trust in players to follow the plans set out during the week.

I can accept that very occasionally there might be the odd circumstance where the coach in the stands has a better view or a different angle that might provide some minor benefit a captain may not see but that would be extremly rare.

Absolutely spot on, very well said. They don't get paid great money for the time and effort involved, so why make them spend all their Saturdays (and lots of Sundays) away from their often young families. Common sense approach.

Suppose Andrew McDonald doesn’t need to be at test matches then?

Cmon guys.

Perhaps as you go down levels of cricket where coaches aren’t in abundance the responsibility is more on captains. But I would think 100% of first grade cricketers would want a coach there game day.
