Smallest total of margins at breaks

The final of 1919 between West Torrens and North Adelaide went like this:

Qtr Time: Torrens 1.1 North 1.0 (1 point lead to Torrens)
Half Time: Torrens 1.3 North 1.0 (3 point lead to Torrens)
3Qtr Time: Torrens 2.3 North 2.2 (1 point lead to Torrens)
Full Time: Torrens 2.3 North 2.3 (Draw)

The total of the margins at each break was 5 - 1+3+1+0. This is the smallest total of margins ever. It's not surprising that a scoreline like that would have this record, so here is the top 10:

Once again, I bow to the Master. :prayer:
That Woodville/West game in 1987 looks a beauty.
Will have to look up my Football Times to get the full story.

Two ten+ goalkickers in the same game.
How many times has this happened?

Two other occasions - In Round 4 1930 both Jack Owens and Leslie Dayman kicked 10 goals. Round 6 1940 had Bo Morton (12.3) and Bruce Schultz (10.5).

That must have been a helluva finals series for North supporter's nerves.
Two draws and a five point loss in the Grand Final. The really scarey thing is North were One Point up in 1919 Grand Final with only seconds remaining when Ivor Nicolle's shot on goal put Sturt 5 points up. If he had missed and scored a behind......yep you guessed it!!!!

I'm just impressed that the true 'one goal (between both teams) in mind' match from the early 20th century, that finished Port 1.4 (10) d Norwood 0.5 (5), didn't make the top 10 of 'smallest margins at breaks'.

It would be next on the list - total of 10 points:

Round 3 1909:
1st: Norwood 0.2 Port 0.1 (1)
2nd: Norwood 0.3 Port 0.2 (1)
3rd: Norwood 0.5 Port 0.2 (3)
4th: Port 1.4 Norwood 0.5 (5)

If only we had a few more of those Woodville v West matches nowadays!

It reminds me of a VFA match I saw when I was 7 in 1981 - Sandringham kicked something like 26-16 in the Division 1 Preliminary Final and lost by 7 points to Preston!

I will dig out my VFA history book but the number of goals was definitely around 53.

Something I overlooked was that the Port/North match in Round 4. It now sits 2nd on that list, with the margins totalling 6 points (1 point lead to North, 1 point lead to Port, 2 points lead to Port, 2 points lead to North)
