i think without putting those that are in there down, that peter carey should be in there along side his peers & just remember its called AUSTRALIAN (NOT VICTORIAN) FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME

IMHO Peter Carey, Paul Bagshaw and Rick Davies are the obvious ommissions, how the hell someone like Dean Kemp who admittedly was a good footballer can get in (or that bloke from the VFA) before these 3 is beyond me.
I think Ken Farmer and Russell Ebert should join Barrie in the Legends status too.

Just been on the AFL site checking the records....

Frank Johnson VFA/VFL ~230 games (167 games VFA 64 VFL games), 1 flag, 1 Liston medal, 2 State games and 1 All Australain selection.

versus

448 SANFL games, 19 State games (~ 6 SOO), 3 flags (2 as captain) 2 ALL Australian, Fos Williams medalist

WTF??

Especially when they give the argument VFL games a more prestigous than SANFL games okay but 164 VFA games vs 448 SANFL games....

His record beats Paul kelly's and Dean Kemps and I'm prepared to admit it matches Dippers and Michael Longs ( M Longs for his actions off the field)...

Tommorrow I'm ringing the ABC during their pre game over here in Victoria.

His only crime is he said NO to teh VFL (I know he said no to St Kilda at teh end of '79 and '80) and I bet other clubs were chasing him in the 70s.....(I should have asked his Mum and Dad when I met them years ago at a non GFC function how many other clubs chased him)

Agree fully Tassie and you know when you've got a North supporter backing you up in regard to Super you're on a winner.
He should be in there for his 73 Grand Final effort alone yet alone the 400 odd games he played after that!!!!

Must agree, Careys' record speaks for itself. He should be in there, he is far more deserving than plenty of those vfl hacks already inducted. We must realise however that the football world starts and finishes at Ballarat and that is not likely to change in my lifetime.

How about the continued overlooking of Tom leahy? This guy was one of the greatest players in the country prior to WW2.
His crimes....
+ Joining North instead of going to the VFL.
+ Playing in an era that would require the judges to actually read a book that didn't concentrate on the VFL. And actually have some sort of knowledge of any football that is played west of Geelong.

Known throughout Australia as 'The Prince of Ruckmen' Tom Leahy was arguably the most widely celebrated footballer produced in South Australia prior to the onset of the television age. The reasons for his high reputation were legion. In the first place, he possessed all the skills necessary to succeed as a ruckman in the 'ruck shepherd era', a time when the primary objective of the second player in a ruck combination (the player who would later metamorphose into the ruck rover) was to impede and interfere with the opposition's main ruckman in an effort to prevent him contesting the knock. Leahy's strength, intelligence and athleticism enabled him to counter these tactics better probably than anyone.
Secondly, despite being the object of unrestrained and often illegal vigour on the part of his opponents Tom Leahy always maintained a cheerful, unflustered demeanour, and never retaliated. This is not to suggest for a moment that his play lacked aggression; however, his aggression was always controlled, and seldom transcended standards of what was acceptable, both legally and morally.

Tom Leahy remained in the upper echelon of the nation's footballers throughout his two decades in the game. One of his contemporaries, Vic Richardson of Sturt, when writing of Leahy half a century after his retirement as a player, paid him the ultimate accolade of suggesting that "had (he) played under the modern rules, which do not permit shepherding or interference at the bounce, no ruckman in Australia could have taken one knock from him. His tremendous power and wonderful judgement would have given him far too great an advantage" [see footnote 1]. This assessment may have been magnified somewhat by the rose-tinted lenses of nostalgia, but evaluations of the abilities of footballers are always subjective and it is at least arguable that the opinions of a player's contemporaries should count for rather more than the subsequent evaluations of so called 'experts' whose perceptions have, to all intents and purposes, been pre-packaged and delivered to them whole, albeit with scant regard for historical veracity.

Tom Leahy played a total of 196 senior games, comprising 58 with West Adelaide, 111 with North Adelaide, and 27 for South Australia.

In 1922 he was appointed non-playing coach of Norwood, and steered the club to two premierships and a 3rd place in his three seasons at the helm.

What that article doesn't mention is the 27 State games he played is every state game that was played during his career.
He won the 1913 Magarey Medal and was "runner up" on three other occassions.
Won North's B&F three times
Is in the SANFL Hall of Fame and is first ruck in North Adelaide's team of the century.

Mate you can chuck in Mick Redden and Greg Phillips too (I reckon Phillips is more deserving than those other Port players IMO)

Macca and to a lesser extent Aish deserve a guernsey ahead of some of the other hacks.

LL your right that is in awesome stat to play 27 state games out of a possible 27 is a pretty fair player

Davies = maybe (don't know his full record)

Evans = doubtful (IIRC he started at Geelong as a full-back and played 2-3 years before moving to Port - this could be misconstrued as being a failure in the VFL in "Vic-biased" eyes)

Phillips = maybe down the track because he did well in both states

Ginever, Delany, Fiacchi, Redden and Leahy = little chance (nobody in Vic has heard of them)
