Like the Eagles premiership last year, it will tend to get lost in the minds of some people as the 1991 Premiership won by North Adelaide due to the clubs Grand Final efforts two years earlier. Overlooking of course that it took both clubs just two years to win the flag after humiliation on the big day.

Also, with the 1991 win, another reason people tend to forget the overall dominating effort by the Roosters was the fights.

These were the reports made on the day:
Kim Klomp (North) - by Mick Abbott for striking Greg Mellor during the 1st quarter
Steven Sims (North) - by Laurie Argent and goal umpire Peter Symons for strking Matthew Simpson during the 2nd quarter - 12 matches
Mike Parsons (North) - by Argent for striking Glen Goss in the 2nd quarter.
Dean Schumann (West) - by Argent for attempting to strike a North player "at least 10 times to the head" - 2 matches
Sean Blythe (West) - by Argent for striking Steven Sims - 3 matches

Then after the head of the Umpires Board Roger Magor reviewed the tape, the following charges were laid:
Matthew Simpson (West) - striking Darel Hart in the 1st quarter - not guilty
Dean Schumann (West) - striking Steven Hamilton in the 3rd quarter - 3 matches
Kim Klomp (North) - unduly rough play towards Schumann in the 3rd quarter
Marc Marshall (North) - striking Sean Blythe in the 3rd quarter - not guilty
Tim Perkins (North) - attempting to strike Blythe in the 3rd quarter - 2 matches
Tim Perkins (North) - striking Peter Banfield in the last quarter - 1 match
Peter Banfield (West) - striking Perkins in the 4th quarter - 1 match
Shane Fitzsimmons (West) - striking Krieg in the 4th quarter - 3 matches

If anyone can help out on the verdicts of both Klomps' (that was postponed for 2 weeks as he was unavailable on a buisness trip, I think) and the Parsons and Goss reports - it wasn't reported in the Advertiser as far as I can see, that would be good.

I thought that it was a bit rich and uncalled for that there was an allegation made about North throwing the last match they played as that would mean they would get a two week break - the bye and the 1st week of finals off. As it turned out, South won the last two matches and would have finished top anyway. Also, that this comment was made public after North won the Grand Final, which was a bit of a cheap shot in my book.

A so called "violence in sport expert" said that players who delivered king hits should be banned for a year after this match.

As Mick Nunan rightly pointed out, that some brilliant pieces of play seemed to be forgotten amongst the violence during the day.

Interesting to see 2 players there who could have been anything - Saliba and Peter Turner. Turner in particular i thought was going to be a leading AFL player. It was obvious Saliba had talent but even in those early years it was fairly clear the commitment wasn't there.

I had a friend who saw the in game in person then watched the video.
He was amazed that the ABC missed most of the carnage.
Anybody else notice this?

I was sitting about 20 rows up directly in front of the Steven Sims incident and it was the worst thing I have seen on a footy field ever. The game got out of control and Simsy (altho in the wrong for what he did) was retaliating for some earlier hits on other North players.

This Grand Final was a bit lost in the rush of the Crows first season and it was one of those rare years when the minor premier (South) didn't make the GF. North dominated all 3 finals that year - Eagles, South and then West. North had a better side than history suggests and Spelly is right in saying that the North's most recent premierhip is remembered more the biffo, which is a shame.

Trevor Clisby's 100+ metre goal (courtesy of two 50 metre penalties)
Craig Burton kicking an impossible goal from "the pocket" of the Tony Hall Pocket
Darel Hart being bashed from pillar to post by Goss and still sinking 7 goals on the SOB to win the game off his own boot.
Peter Kreig's magnificent game in the centre (his last great game before injury ruined him )
Tim Perkins' dashes out of defence.

It's not. There was a mix up with the photos. It's a seconds player whose name escapes me.

This is a great thread. Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could get similar for each Grand Final. People could input photos, team line ups and memories of the game. Even if we just do one Grand Final every week or so...

I was 10 years old and it was our first year (of four) living over on the Yorke Peninsula. I remember watching this game on tv and mainly remember the fights.

Jason Blair was number 33 I think, it could be him (although the photo doesn't loook like him from memory).

Peter Turner - "Potentially the next Darren Jarman". I bet the club cringed when they saw that.
