Linday Head + Ralph Sewer

I just checked the West Torrens book and it has listed Head has playing 325 league and 11 cup games

does this mean the accepted total of 327 is wrong?

It also applies to goals (book has 518 + 16 cup)

I noticed the same for Ralph Sewer in the woodville book, If stated he played 325 games and kicked 403 (league + NS)

Are the accepted totals correct or the Woodville/West Torrens book.

As the book presents a breakdown its hard to argue with it

327 is correct for Head, although it should be really 336 - it would be in line with the rest of the SANFLs interpretations of games tallies. The SANFL started to include night matches in total games tallies in 1961.

Hadn't heard that one but doesn't surprise me. Records taken in the older days could be slightly out.
I think over the years confusion has been caused by the inclusion of "non" home and away and finals games (eg: Night Series etc). And then it gets more confusing when some of those games seem to get included but not others. :?
I must admit I always grew up thinking not only Lindsay Head finished on 327, but also Don Lindner finished on 284 and just recently I found a couple of old mags that had him on 287.

Ah!!! That is interesting. I did not know that. Do you know if the SANFL counted Champions of Australia games Spelly?

so your suggesting the WT book is correct, but the SANFL has an odd way of recording games.... i.e. it must have recorded 2 of Heads NS games as League matches

Yes they do. Every match from 1961 onwards such as Night Series, Champions of Australia and the VFL Night Series are counted. The West Torrens Annual Report in 1960 or 1961 makes a note that Night Series games would be counted from that point on. I'm not sure of the exact wording but it's something like that.

Yes, that's right, but the SANFL should really count them all, IMO.

The games Norwood played in 1975 were certainly counted.

The stats about knighthoods from petty cash are almost certainly are best known to former Labour politician Tony Blair!
