Dear Spelly - Crowd figures PA v NA @ Alberton

Postby JK » Tue Nov 14, 2006 1:20 pm

Was going to PM this, but I figured many others often have questions for Spell_Check so why not make a thread out of it.

Spelly, would it be possible to supply me with the crowd figure for the final minor round game in 1986, PA v Nor @ Alberton?

Thanks,
CP

16,053. Which was more than the double header at Football Park between North/Central and Glenelg/Sturt - 15,183.

Thanks mate, I remember living on the new Choc-Chip Muesli Bars they were handing out upon entering the ground, as the Pies (the Balfours or Gibbs variety) were already cold by the Ressies such were the numbers!!

Continuing with the crowd theme, when did the SANFL start recording
attendances for H&A games?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

I am not too sure. There were estimates in match reports in the 1900s' and 1910s' but I figure that this was the match reporter guessing.

I do have most crowd figures from 1924 onwards. Arouind this time might be when they became more "official" as a exact figure was given for the Round 5 1923 match at Thebarton - North won 7.15 to Torrens 6.16. The crowd was 7653. Most figures from then until 1930 were estimates, with the occasional actual figure. Then in the 1930s' it was about half actual and half estimates.

After World War 2, it went back to almost entirely estimates again, until the late 50s' when actual figures become more common again. Then from Round 4 1963, the figures became entirely actuals.

The crowds I'm missing from 1924 onwards are:

1924 Round 1 - North vs Sturt, Glenelg vs West
1930 Rounds 5 to 17
1933 Round 13
1935 Round 14
1937 Rounds 4 and 5
1941 Season
1945 Season
1946 Season
1947 Rounds 4 to 10
1948 Round 1 - Glenelg vs South, Sturt vs Port, Round 17
1949 Rounds 2, 3, 4, 11 and 17
1950 Round 1 - Sturt vs South, Port vs Glenelg, Round 17
1951 Rounds 2, 4, 6 to 12, 14
1952 Round 16
1955 Round 17
1958 Round 2 - Sturt vs Glenelg
1962 Round 15
1970 Round 5 - Glenelg vs South
1974 Round 1 - South vs Glenelg, Norwood vs Port, Central vs West, North vs Sturt
Round 2 - Glenelg vs Central, Torrens vs North, Sturt vs Norwood
Round 4 - Port vs Torrens, Central vs South, Norwood vs West
Round 7 - West vs Sturt, Norwood vs South, Port vs North

How many players played a league game for Norwood this year and do you have all of their names? I would be surprised if it much more than 33-35

Now for the real test - can you provide a current profile for Pram Lady  and a current bank statement for Cupido??

Actually, further to the above Spelly, it would actually be interesting to know how many players ALL league teams went through in 2006. (Just the numbers will satisfy me for this question but others may be interested in the names for their respective clubs).

I was taking information from a listing in round 1 which is the game he played. Obviously he let himself go then?

Well done again! Thanks for that. 8)

I'm now onto Date of Births, but I'm sure this would be a much harder task as they are of course not in the Budget.

I'd contact the clubs for that information, they would have it. Not sure how far back the clubs go though.
