Finals droughts - North v South.

Attention history boffins: can you confirm that South's haven't defeated North in a final since the 1903 first semi final? I always knew North had the wood on the Panthers in finals in recent decades, but never thought it stretched back that far.

Also, if true, is this the greatest finals drought in the comp?

1903 1st semi final (as mentioned by Magellan)
South 5.12 42 D North 3.5 23

Prior to that the only other 2 finals were 2 GFs that North beat South in.

After it North won against South in:
1936 1st semi
1966 1st semi
1983 Elim
1990 1st semi
1991 2nd semi
2006 1st semi
2018 Elim

Currently 9-1

Showing my lack of age but has Glenelg ever beat Centrals in a final.

I know in the 2010's they wouldn't have met and in the 2000's Centrals won each contest.

Going into the 90's I seem to recall me seemed to miss each other pretty. Whilst Glenelg were strong in the early 90's the Dogs didn't really take off until about 1994 to which we finished the minor round 3rd.

Correct, Centrals won the toss & kicked with a gale to the Northern End.
Qtr time CD 1.10 Gl 1.0, game over.

IIRC the Bays also reaped the benefits of the opposition's poor kicking the week before when they knocked off Sturt.

So 30+ years between Centrals and Glenelg.

The way things are heading that will stretch well into the 40's because the Dogs wont be making the finals anytime soon

We won that game by 10 goals but IIRC Sturt kicked something like 4.19
We’d actually beaten them the week before in the final minor round game by nearly 100 pts.

PhilH incorrectly only publishes statistics from 1907 onwards. All that happened in 1907 that there was a change of mane from SAFA to SAFL.
He might as well only publish statistics from the late 1920s when SAFL became SANFL.

Most historians including Bernard Whimpress and the late Mark Beswick agreed that games statistics should start from 1897.
