Im compiling a list of first class games that I want to put on the net so footy history isnt lost..... but published SANFL history data doesnt seem to start until 1907.

I have the VFA scores and tables from 1877-

any one know where I can get the scores and or tables from for the early erasm for SA from........ before the powers that be officially decide that football started in 1897.

I understand Norwood went its first two years undefeated but nobody can tell me how many games this stretched

James H,

I am in the process of trolling through the SA Register (mostly), and the other papers of the time (The Advertiser) etc. Recording all the matches played either for Premiership points, or against Inter-Colonial (Inter-State) sides such as Carlton, St Kilda etc. I want to publish Season Summaries of the SAFA 1877-1906, recording as many matches as were reported in the papers of the day as I can. It's a project I've been working on, on and off for a number of years. I haven't done much research for about three years due to other commitments but am in a position again to renew my research.

If anyone else out there is or has done similar research could you post about what you have done, I'm sure there have been some people who have done something on this already.

Thanks 8)

James H,

Just to add, Norwood did not go undefeated at anytime that it won its six Premerships in a row, from 1878-1883. If you want more info on Norwood at this time, the State Library holds a copy of a History Honours Thesis from Adelaide University from 1986. It's all about Norwoods dominance of the competition at that time. Well worth a read.

That is quite interesting. Were Norwood's defeats against touring teams. The only SAFA table I could find for 1878 had them undefeated.

I always thought Norwoods first defeat came at the hands of Victorian FC.
