I read with interest thismorning that on Saturday Sturt lost consecutive games by 100 points for the first time in their history. As a north fan I like to compare the two 13 premiership clubs. Not a lot splits them apart from the obvious fact North have reached 6 more grand finals. I dare say North have lost consecutive games by 100 points at least once in their history.

How about the other clubs how many times has it happened?

What went wrong to the North Adelaide of 1975??
to loose by that margin 3 week in a row supporters would be causing physical harm to themsleves


imagine if the internet existed back then the roost would have imploded with all the posters refusing to post as they were too ashamed to be seen or heard of publicly

I'm not sure, it does happen though. Sturt were premiers 4 years ago, West were grand finalists 3 years ago and now both are struggling to win games, and sturt are coming off back to back 100 point losses.

good point but the Double Blues have struggled with cash which has affected recruiting and West have been cleaned out by the draft for several years and recruiting mistakes with interstaters

Im not so sure that major cash flow problems would have existed in the 70s with no AFL comp to speak of. But given that established league players would have left to try their luck in the VFL.



Going from Champions of the land to 100 pt beltings in 3 years?? i suppose it could happen but out of interest where did north finish in 75?

North Adelaide had many good players in its 71/72 team and B Robran was obviously the icing on the cake. North started to struggle in early 74 as a lot of the 71/72 team started leaving (internal strife?) - Robran was carrying North in 74 until he then got hurt mid season - North then fell apart badly for the rest of 74. Mike Patterson in 75 had a lot of new players with some 71/72 veterans - they made the 75 finals series simply because they weren't as bad as West,South,Central,Torrens & Woodville that year. 1975 was the season where the gap between Sturt,Port,Glenelg & Norwood and the other 6 teams was awesome - hence the decision by the then NFL to create the 1976 national comp where the SA Big Four took on 5 Vic & 3 WA teams - to deflect attention away from how bad the lower 6 SANFL teams were...The 1977 SANFL State Team that played in the special Centenary of SA Football match against WA chose players from just the Big Four clubs (and lost...)

The Francou brothers, Adrian Rebbeck, Barry Hearl, The Sachse brothers, Bohdan Jaworskyj, Terry Von Bertouch, John Spry, Geoff Strang, Daryl Webb, Geoff Paull, John Phillips, Bob Hammond, to name a few had all left the club between 1972 and 1975. That was on top of Barrie doing his knee in 74.

thats a fair list of players to loose inside 3 years i can now see why it all went down hill still a good effort to cop 3 hidings in the one season and finish 5th
