One hit wonders at your club

Talking on db.org, we came up with a few, mostly from the horror years.

Clay chaplin kicked 19 goals in 6 games in 1990 but faded away. Played for scotch OS after at and not sure what he is doing now.

There are many others in the sanfl over the years but keep it to one per post and try and elaborate on what they did and where they went and are now.

Should be good.

Klenjens? (sp?) That bloke with the tatts that looked like being a star and a cult hero, pretty much only played a couple of good games then faded.

Troy Olsen I guess qualifies. Played in the flag in 94. Got drafted by Collingwood but didnt go over, played some games in 95 then dissapeared until playing for a country side in a Power curtain raiser in around 1998 looking about 55 kilos over his playing weight at the Maggies.

Trevor May kicked 5 goals in the 1994 massacre of Glenelg and had some good games that year. His career flittered away after moving to Sturt.

Phil Smith was kicking 4 or 5 every week in the first half of his first year in 2000 then couldnt get a kick for the rest of his time at the club.

Will probably need AH's help with this one, but there was a bloke for Norwood who I think debuted early in the season in the first Footy Park game for Premiership points against Port in 1984.

IIRC he kicked 5 and looked alright (wore no. 26 I think) but we didn't see or hear a lot more from him.

Both Olsen and May went back to their farms and Mid West footy, Troy to Wirrulla where he has kicked heaps of goals over the years, and May to Central Eyre (Kyancutta/Warramboo) where I think he won a Mail Medal but a few years later came back to Adelaide and into the State Amatuer side after a handful of games IIRC.

From the Eagles, Paul Chapman had a great 93 and start to 94 but then went pretty quickly. Martin (first name escapes me) was an Australian Water Polo player who then played half a dozen games for the Eagles including the 2005 GF.

Mark Jones in 1998 I think. Got him from Norwood and was awesome for one year. Think he may have been our leading goalkicker.

No idea what happened to him.

Saade Ghazi in 1990 as well, but had a very good career back in the VFL after that.

Jones went and starred for Broadies, I think.
But also played some country footy - Barmera-Monash was one club.

Gaazi with Williamstown.

Josh Gum (brother to Tristan) debuted in 1998 for North at Prospect and kicked 7 goals against the Eagles in that match.
I don't recall him doing a lot more than that!

Mark Jones was going to be my nomination. Played a brilliant 1992 for Norwood, kicked over 60 goals and was drafted by Richmond. Went to the AFL Grand Final as a guest of Richmond, and his behaviour was such that Richmond lost interest in him. Returned to Norwood and played only 1 more game before ending up in the Amateur League with Broadview (I believe) before a stint with Central.

I always said Jones was the closest thing to Peter Daicos I ever saw.

Footballing nomad Trevor Sutton played in WA, SA, Qld, NSW, Victoria and North Territory, representing both Queensland and NSW at state level. It is said that he kicked more than 4, 000 goals in his career!

The first player to kick 100 goals in the Darwin competition in 1979/1980
Claimed to have kicked 148 at Geraldton in 1977.
In 1984 kicked 154 for Robinvale in the Sunraysia FL.
In 1986 kicked 140 for East Wagga Kooringal in the Riverina FL.
By far his biggest haul came in 1982 with 249 for Deniliquin in the Murray FL.

In 1978 he came to Norwood with a big reputation as a prolific goalkicker and never get out of the seconds.

Somehow I find that a little hard to believe :)

He only played 4 reserves games for Norwood, kicked 8 goals. Looked okay, but nothing special.

I don't doubt that - he was talented and very enjoyable to watch.
Put him and Pete Smith alongside each other - it'd be interesting to watch them showing off their skills.
