Have a bye and go up the ladder?

Postby dedja » Sun Apr 24, 2011 2:15 pm

Spelly,

In an unusual quirk, if Central beat Norwood by about 3 goals (I think, depending on scores) then Central's percentage will still be below Glenelg's and Norwood's percentage will drop below Glenelg.

In this case, Glenelg will rise from 3rd to 2nd whilst having a bye.

Has this ever happened before, where a team rises up the ladder after having a bye?
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Tangentially, I can recall occasions when a team has lost and risen up the ladder due to the vagaries of percentage. IIRC the week after the infamous 1.4 game, Glenelg lost to Sturt by only 6 points, causing the Bays to reclaim 8th spot from the 'Legs on percentage.
