Which SANFL player did you "be" in the backyard?

Was just reading one of the threads in the Journal and someone mentioned about how they would play in the backyard and would "be" Michael Taylor in these games.

For something completely different, would love to know which player posters use to "be" in their backyard games, when (as many of us did, even if we don't admit it!!) we would either have a solo kick, or with mates, and keeping a running commentary?

I used to have three - inevitably Michael Aish, but also "became" Malcolm Blight at times and for some reason, I always used to look up to North Adelaide's John Brealey. Just liked the way he always gave a good, honest contest and tried his hardest for the red and white.

Post away :)

David Marshall, Scotty Salisbury, Stephen Kernahan

I used to do my Scotty Salisbury and pretended that everyone else was Darren or Rohan Smith...I never got weeks, but I did do my best to smash those blokes into oblivion.

Graham Molloy. Around that time Molloy was taking the most awesome marks in football. Pity he went to Melbourne and we rarely saw him again. A lot of good SANFL players achieved relative obscurity playing for Melbourne around that era ... Molloy, Tilbrook, Yeo, just to name a few. :)

I got to know the big fella very well playing cricket for Kilburn many years ago.

Without doubt one of the funniest blokes I've ever met, and one the few who could pull beers behind the bar and play cricket at the same time.

Bob Shearman in my primary school days - use to mimic that backwards little skip he did and then unleash one of my booming 10 metre drop kicks with the plastic footy. Later on it was Ken Whelan - I'd place a footy in the gutter of my parent's roof - then charge in - one leg out and up into the wall's brickwork and then lift off to snatch the footy from the gutter. Later on I was able to grab the footy from just a few paces with a leap just like Whelan. And of course Sturt never lost a game in a decade of back yard imaginary games - they could beat all SANFL & VFL & WAFL teams and even the All Australian Teams of 1969 & 1972. Damn good side my Double Blues.

I didn't "be" footballers, but I didn't start attending matches until I was about 12 years old, which was probably why.
[At an earlier age was inclined to adopt the personae of American west gun-fighters - Wyatt Earp was one of my favourites.]
