Spelly, can you please advise West Adelaide's W-L-D record at the Showgrounds, their biggest crowd at the venue, and whether any league matches were played there which didn't involve West.

Wests record was:
Code: Select all
vs       P  W  L  D
Glenelg 13  8  5  -
North   13  4  9  -
Norwood 13  3 10  -
Port    13  7  5  1
South   15  8  7  -
Sturt   13  4  9  -
Torrens 14  7  7  -
Total   94 41 52  1

Largest crowd: 15,800 vs Port Round 11 1927

There were two other matches played there:
Norwood 20.15 Glenelg 12.5 Round 1 1937
South 18.9 Torrens 10.25 Round 12 1938

Thanks Spelly. Surprised me with the size of that crowd, and the fact that West's 2nd 'easiest' opponent there was Port.

West had four other attendances above 10,000; three others in 1927 and one in 1928.

They did have two below 1,000; 719 in 1931 and 965 in 1938. The 719 figure can be seen here:

Also, that day, 11/7/1931 was the coldest ever for a day SANFL match - 8.8 degrees.

Beautiful stuff Spelly. On that theme, what were the highest and lowest recorded attendances at Kensington Oval?

Did South win their first game for the year that day?
Was the margin 3 points?
Was it the day that SA defeated WA in Perth for the first time in many, many years?

I was one of the 1,000 people there that day. I remember it vividly

There is a Museum at the Wayville Showgrounds
Has some interesting history on the Royal Show
Also has 1 or 2 exhibits from West Adelaide's days when playing at Wayville
I'm not sure if the Museum is open during the year
But should be open in the SA History week which is in May each year
