Why does Elizabeth Oval tend to be called the Ponderosa

You here this so often where people talk about the Dogs playing at the 'Ponderosa'

After a quick google search Ponderosa seems to be a type of North American Pine tree, is the reason behind the ground being called Ponderosa or is there another alternative meaning.

It was so named because of its large, open spaces - like in the Ponderosa, the home of the popular television program Bonanza.

I think it gained further resonance when 'Cowboy' Neale was coaching us, but that could be just something I imagined.

Thought it had something to do with large open spaces but couldnt find a meaning to match

I laughed a little when I saw that map, as our Ponderosa is close to Virginia as well ;)

It's call the Ponderosa, as it's close to Lake Tahoe

e.g

"Hey man, I wanna root tha ho!"

True - but there isn't a lot of waterfront land in Elizabeth ;)

why have you got a picture of mal dedja ??



ponderosa is more polite term & gives listeners the picture of a vast open space area



now we could always go back to saying 'pommie park' & others that we have all heard & said albeit not very nice or sporting though
