Mark, why do you say Farmer 1417? Older references always showed Farmer's total as 1419. Newer references often say 1417, but I'm not aware of any justification for the lower figure. All NAFC records say 1419, and if his season-by-season tallies are added together the result is 1419. Where did he lose the two goals?

The Farmer Files by Paul Depasquale - one of the best footy books ever written - page 220 explains why the correct tally is 1417.

A.Giles did not play in the 1948 Grand Final, he was replaced in the team by J.Rudd.

G.Fehring should read J.Fehring.

Thanks for that, rd. So Farmer wasn't quite as great as I'd thought.

Phil, I think there's a problem with the program as shown on the inside front cover. In Rd 21, the dates should read Fri 20/8 and Sat 21/8 with the two Friday games having 7.40 starts.

Sorry Big Phil, but in your otherwise excellent article "SANFL Draft Delights" you refer to a 'magnificent 5 goal performance in the (2003) league Grand Final for West Adelaide' by Adam Cooney. It was Central's Eddie Sansbury (opposed to Cooney for part of the game) who kicked the five goals, leading to his drafting by the Kangaroos. Not sure that Cooney even had five kicks for the game.

Thanks guys all appreciated, keep them coming as you find them.

I will have a prize for the most embarrassing error found
- So far its the loser of the 1966 grand final. (year by year )

I worked out, that at 300 pages and say an average of 100 facts per page (names, scores, numbers etc) ... that equals apprx 30,000 facts in this book

At an accuracy rate of 99.9% there would still be 30 errors.

That said we had more proofing done that the last 3 books combined.
(as Peter who had to make all the changes can attest to).

and we will continue to strive to have it as perfect factually as our humanity allows.

Page 109 on South's club directory indicates they were formed in 1875 but on page 275 in the
Year by Year section , it says 1876

Page 167 Central v Sturt Head to Head, Last Final should be 2009 Grand Final.

page 212 Elimination Final Stats
Glenelgs lowest score should be 8.9.57 (win)
North's lowest score should have (win) next to it
Woodville's lowest score should have full year (1987) next to it.

Are we looking at the same publication? Mine says Peter Schwarz captain 1991-94, and then Andrew Rogers captain 1995-2000.

Just on this issue, should the number of goals for leading goalkickers include just SANFL Premiership games or ALL representative matches during the season. Norwood's official list only includes matches in the SANFL competition. If this is the case, then a number of our goalkicking tallies are incorrect on page 90.

They should read:
1976 J.Michalanney 63
1977 P.Adler 67
1978 R.Woodcock 42
1979 B.Winter 45

1982 N.Roberts 83
1983 N.Roberts 111
1984 N.Roberts 98
1985 N.Roberts 47
1986 K.Thomas 40

1988 R.Maynard 50

2005 R.Neill 44

That brings me to a question. Why only records since 1907. Sure 1907 is when the SAFA changed its name to SANFL, but as far as I have read the change was only in title. If the SANFL has to change to AFLSA (perish the thought, but it probably will happen) will all records start again. I don't think they should.

I can't speak for everyone, but trying to draw accurate and reliable statistics prior to 1907 is nigh impossible.

I think Mark Beswick has this period covered.
I've got the majority of these games but not all.
This should be a high priority for anyone who wants the statistical history
of the SANFL to be as complete as possible.

Last time I spoke with Mark, he only went as far back as 1897, and even then couldn't vouch for the accuracy.

Page 10: ' Milner Avenue' should be Milner Road.

Page 205: Heading should be 'PREMIERSHIP PLACINGS 1983 - 2009'.

A decision needs to be made on whether you're spelling it "medalist" or "medallist" as we get both versions throughout the book.

Page 59 - There's an errant bracket '[' before 'TEAM RECORDS'.

Page 130. West's coach in 2000 was Michael Taylor not Ian Borchard.

Page 132: The book is called "Bloods Sweat and Tears" not "Blood".

Page 132: The line "West would have wait" needs a 'to' in it.

Page 132: It's "Shrimp" Dowling, not "Schrimp".

Page 132: Fast fact - one of the two "is" needs to be omitted.

Page 132: The most recent Magarey Medallist is James Ezard not Glenn Kilpatrick.

Pages 232, 234, 238, 240, 242, 244: The heading should read 'INDIVIDUAL' rather than 'INDIVIDIUAL'.
