Ten goals in a quarter and still lost

In homage to Sturt's one good quarter this week: How many times has a team dobbed 10 in a single quarter yet lost the match? Couldn't be too often.

Only other time I can remember is early nineties, 92 or 93, Glenelg v Norwood at Glenelg. Norwood kicked 10 goals to the Bays' 5 in the first term but got overrun by the end of the game.

I'm sure Spell Check will have the answer but I would think it's happened more times that you would initially think.

Two that come readily to mind for me are:
South Adelaide 10-4 v Norwood 1-1, round 9 1972, Adelaide Oval.
Final score: Norwood 18--15, d. South Adelaide 18-11

North Adelaide 11-2 v Norwood 7-1, round 5 1975, Norwood Oval
Final score: Norwood 26-22, d. North Adelaide 24-12.

The amazing thing about the 1975 match is that North also kicked 9 goals in the final quarter, so they kicked 20 goals in 2 quarters and STILL lost.

North kicked 10 goals in (IIRC) the second quarter of the "return to Woodville Oval" match in 1992 against The Eagles. Still ended up getting belted.

No team has ever kicked 60 points in a quarter twice in a match and lost. That Norwood/North game, North kicked 9.5 (59) in the last.

No team has kicked exactly 60 points in one quarter in a match and lost it.

Spelly, have you ever thought of publishing your gold mine of stats so that
us mere mortals could indulge ourselves?

Maybe one day. Ecky and I are still correcting scores - only a handful (20 or so are slightly different)

Ah wrong year - cheers Spelly. Mind you Woodville Oval vs W-WT just means shellacking for me. I moved to Victoria in 1995 and have only seen North play there against W-WT in 1992,93 and 1994 :Hangman:

Being pedantic - you mean last quarter.

Sorry, that was supposed to be "No team has ever kicked 60 points in a quarter twice in a match and lost the game." North in that match got the closest.

Actually what I had first was correct, but so was the statement I changed it to.

How about that Port v West game at AAMI over 10 years ago. I think West were 11 goals down a couple minutes into the 2nd and still won.

Port had 9.1 at quarter time in that match to Wests' 0.1.

LOL- that was some of the funniest commentary I have heard. Still have some highlights of that on video.. Mark Aiston screaming in the background and Rocky Roberts with "What a SENSATIONAL catch"

Pseudo I was at that Norwood v Bays match- An absolute belter. Remember Aish being caught holdng the ball in between the grandstand and Snouts Hill. It was one of the loudest "BALLLL"cheers I have ever heard
