Youngest player for your club.

Youngest player for your club.

Postby MightyEagles » Wed Jun 07, 2006 10:27 am

With Sam Fairclough being the youngest player to play league for the Eagles and for either Woodville and West Torrens at 16 years and 9 months. I was wondering who is the youngest player to play League at each club.

Dexter Kennedy holds the SANFL record, I believe.

Was 15 when he made his debut for West.

Yes, Dexter Kennedy was 15 years, 11 months, 2 days. He played his first game against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval, 9th May 1970. The previous record holder was Reg Richards (South Adelaide) who was 16 years, 4 days when he played his first game in 1952.

Other young players are David Jonas (West Adelaide), 16 years, 4 months when he played his first game in 1965, and Lindsay Head (West Torrens) 16 years, 9 months in 1952.

Gavin Wanganeen and Robin Kidney were both 16 when they made their debuts for Port and Glenelg respectively.

Sam Fairclough, when he played his first game a few weeks ago, was younger then Lindsay Head.

I would guess Chris Roberston in 1997 was 15 or 16.

I think for memory Lenny Pascoe debuted for Norwood v South at Footy Park (either 87 or 89) at either 15 or 16 years of age ... Had HUGE wraps on him, hence only spent another season or two before heading off to Victoria Park

sorry to burst your bubble Mighty, the messenger printed a correction this week that Sam was not the youngest to play for either Woodville or West Torrens, that belongs to David Niemann debuted for West Torrens at 16 years 5 months and 22 days in May 1988.

I think Neil Craig was only 16 when he made his league debut but I don't know his exact age.

This is North's "Top 5" (courtesy of Statsman). Don't know what became of the first one but I always thought he had potential.

Mail, JM - 16y, 3 m, 5 d (Rd 1 - 1991 South Adelaide Prospect) 71 games
Stribing, TL - 16 y, 4 m, 27 d (Rd 19 - 2003 Glenelg Glenelg) 1 game
Moritz, AK - 16 y, 5 m, 2 d (Rd 18 - 2000 South Adelaide Adelaide) 16 games (Still Playing*)
McAdam, GJ - 16 y, 6 m, 9 d (Rd 22 - 1977 Woodville Prospect) 103 games

David J. Niemann was West Torrens BUT are thy claiming to be the Eagles? Surely Woodville supporters would disagree.

The Eagles is a new entity fromed from the genealogy of its parents West Torrens and Woodville. The Niemann family will always hold the record for West Torrens but Fairclough hold the Eagles Record!

Well LL technically you can put the "still playing" next to the first one as he can still play for North.

I think Jamie Downs was from the Mallee area originally, i've got a feeling he left West to go back and play for Karoonda or Wynarka..

Kupsch is well down the list at 17 years, 2 months, 29 days (league debut vs CD Round 9 1988)
