If you're interested, Jerry from "At A Toss Of The Coin" had an excellent copy of the 1935 SANFL Grand Final Football Budget last Friday. It would cost about $75 if he still has it.

As for more information and photos, just visit the State Library and check out the old newpapers.

Attached is an Advertiser grand final preview and an interesting photograph of the South Adelaide team during the season when it visited the South East. It contains a number of players who represented the club during the season but did not feature in the premiership team photograph.

I have published a report of the 1935 season that includes a brief report of the grand final and photograph from the match at

http://stores.lulu.com/southaustralianfootball

The report is an overview of the season including match details, major events of the season, photographs, team summaries and player information.

It is one of a number of SANFL season reports that have been made available on the website.

Uncle.

Jack idolised Laurie Cahill and was determined to follow in his footsteps and wear the blue and white.

Won the McCallum for South which alerted Big Bob to the fact he was zoned to Port.

Next year he was at Alberton.

Laurie Cahill is also the uncle of 1960 Magarey Medalist Barrie Barbary.

Great work there Old Timer 2. Does the opening of the press release sound familiar?

"Public sympathy is probably overwhelmingly with South Adelaide - for years the chopping block of the other teams and at times the subject of discussions as to whether it was up to league standard"

I do believe however that the Panthers had a bit of a purple patch in their history about that time, and won another flag just a few years later. Amazing though that they were so dominant in the era preceeding the 36 years prior to 1935, and then dropped so suddenly. I wonder what role the promotion of the Sturt Footy club played in that fall from success? South has won only 3 flags in the hundred odd years Sturt has been in the comp. They won 8 flags in about 30 years before the Blues joined.
Connection? Sort of how Woodville knocked Torrens off their heady perch?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
