100+ point losses by eventual premier.

Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

100+ point losses by eventual premier.

While watching Collingwood's intra club practice match last night.
I mentioned to my mate that Geelong have no hope of winning the
flag as they were beaten by over 100 points.
Carlton in 1945 lost to Essendon by 100 pts then went on to win the flag.
West Perth did it in 1975.
Is Glenelg, in 1934, the only side in the SANFL to do this?

Yes. There have been a few times the side who finished second lost by over 100 points during the season, excluding the GF.

Port lost to Norwood by 122 points in Round 5 1997.
North lost to West by 100 points in Round 17 1985.
Glenelg lost to Central by 109 points in Round 20 1982.
Norwood lost to Port by 108 points in Round 2 1980.
North lost to Glenelg by 160 points in Round 15 1973.

They are the more recent ones.

I reakon that this was some sort of record at the time... Biggest score by a visiting team at Glenelg, or biggest margin, or something like that. See Doggies fans, once your mob had the record for the best visiting performance at Glenelg as well as the worst!

1934 Round 3
Port 33.19.217 Glenelg 12.14.86 @ Alberton 131pts
Round 10
Glenelg 16.14.110 Port 11.18.84 @ Glenelg 26 pts
2nd Semi
Port 23.21.159 Glenelg 13.16.94 65pts
Grand Final
Glenelg 18.15.123 Port 16.18.114 9 pts

Has any eventual Grand finalist's h&A meetings been so unpredictable?

There was a close one in 1984 when eventual premier Norwood was beaten by Central District by 95 points at Elizabeth, Round 14. We had to played Central in the minor round twice that season, both times at Elizabeth. We lost the other one by 43. We got our own back in the 1st Semi and won by 13 points.
