Just reading a topic on the Port Power board and saw Brett Ebert - Magarey Winner. Started me thinking, who has played the least number of SANFL games and won a Magarey Medal?

My season totals of games played by player is very limited I'm afraid, the other problem is to work out if the player played in a match where no votes were awarded, or how many finals matches there were in the season that player played in, or night series matches. This is all I've got at the moment:
2007 - Allan 18 games
2006 - Backwell 19 games
2005 - Clayton 19 games
2003 - Ebert 18 games
2000 - Squire 18 games
1999 - Squire 19 games

Sorry Spelly, I actually meant career games in SANFL to win a Magarey.
I know Ebert wouldn't have played heaps because he seems to be set in the Power team. So he would have played maybe 40-50 SANFL games, and won the Magarey. Do you know if anyone else has played less SANFL games (career) and won a Magarey? Cheers

Glenn Kilpatrick only played one season here (1995?)

That would make it a little easier Rams, but I'd like to take out those matches as I said above to give a true picture of how many potential vote getting games those players played.
In fact, I reckon I can say straight out that Nathan Buckley would be the answer you are looking for.

Reckon Buckley may have played a few games in 1991, plus I think 1992 had 22 games ov er 25 rounds, but by 1995 they were playing 20 games over 23 rounds.

1995 was 22 matches, 1996 onwards has been 20 matches.
I thought Kilpatrick played more than just one season myself, but if you are sure, then it probably is him.

John Duckworth won the medal in his first SANFL season, but he was an experienced player.
another one who pops into my head would by Tony McGuiness who olny played 2-3 games for Glenelg in 1981.

I was thinking along the lines of total career matches and not how many games to win one - the games played after the winning of the medal does not come into consideration.

2 games, IIRC made his debut in the Preliminary Final.

How many games had Alby Green played when he won the first medal in 1898?

Don't know how many games he played, but he represented Norwood from 1893 to 1898.

Phil Sandland's first season was 1901 and he played 10 or 12 games.
