Sturt's Monogram

Which do people prefer?

The current, stuffy Roman Times type font?

Or the older, looser one from Oatey's era?

The latter for mine...

The latter and bring back the real Sturt light blue worn up to the early 90s as opposed to the gay fluorescent crap they have now.

the current one as the older style had, as you say, a looser look and the F was a little whacky for mine. The current one is sharp :D

also, i love the colour of the blue now but wouldnt mind seeing a return to the old light blue they had when we wore lace ups....hell, lets go back to the lace ups :D

As I understand it no team is allowed to wear lace ups now due to safety reasons. Someone got their finger caught in one executing a tackle and damaged their finger.

Know the VFL banned them because players were breaking fingers every week.

No way a club would want to risk litigation these days...

Didn't someone say Robert Flower was a main "player" in getting rid of the lace-ups?

He and Brian Wilson apparently complained that they got their fingers caught in them.
VFL banned them 1988 or 1989, not quite sure.
Sturt and Port had to ditch their lace-ups after the 2001 season after the SANFL
were leaned on by the AFL.

wimps.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

As much as I loved the lace-ups (I used to wear one myself), I can see why they were banned. Also, the guy who used to make them isn't around any more. The fingers could easily get caught resulting in serious injury.

I know this wasn't because of a lace-up, but there was a Sturt player in the 1960s named Kym Stoeckel. A lot of people rated him very highly. He went to tackle someone and got his finger caught in the buckle that used to be on the old footy shorts those days. All the skin was ripped off the finger and it never recovered, so he was never able to play footy again. It's amazing how the most serious injuries can occur in the simplest ways.

I'm waiting to see what happens when someone breaks a finger in the AFL while tackling someone who is wearing one of those new GPS tracking devices that counts the distance a player has traveled in a match.

Yeah, but it was his hand, not just his finger & it was in the cookie jar not a lace up jumper.
