Looking at those debutants, there doesn't seem to be the quality of recruits we have had in previous years. Not including Rodan there are only 3-4 I think with AFL experience. Seems like the AFL is getting its way by making it harder for SANFL clubs to sign ex-AFL players. :(

Spelly - I think it would be an interesting exercise if you have the time to go through the debutants each year for the last xxx years and look at how many there have been each year that have AFL experience.

These are the corresponding threads from the past three seasons:

2006: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1610

2007: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=6980

2008: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=14009

It seems that the numbers went downhill after 2006 - when you had Cupido, Ryswyk, Thewlis, Koops, Haynes, Clarke. Baird and Bullen off the top of my head debuted after playing at least one AFL match.

Then in 2007 - Schwarze, McGuinness, McGrath, Prendergast, B.Kane, plus Liston Trophy winner in Callinan.

2008 - Thurgood, Ward and Trotter.

Note, that's not comprehensive, but those that come to mind.

You did say you missed some but I am suprised you of all people missed Alleway in 2006 and Allan in 2007 for North  . 2 fairly "average" players!

The players I named in that post had played at least one AFL match, besides Callinan. I included him in that list because he won the J.J Liston Trophy.
