CRABB or CRABBE

Postby Mark_Beswick » Sun Nov 16, 2008 9:09 pm

Just been imputting WAFC players and come across a huge problem

In 1942, the WAFC official books from the team manager has Crabbe playing each week for West-glenelg
I always presumed this was Glenelgs Alan john Crabb BUT

The BDM index has Alan John Stapleton Crabbe born 1916 and Alan John Crabb of Glenelg born 1923
Both Alan J Crabbs were involved in WW2.

It now seems possible that the 1942 player is not the glenelg identity.

Allan J Crabbe went to live in Ballarat and dies some time after 1986 there. Alan J Crabb of GFC died 1982
I rang some surviving team-mates (not many left) and now they are not sure about whether they were the same person or different players.

Anyone in the footy world have access to exatc DoD of polayers in Vic. I need to find relatives of AJ Crabbe to substantiate whether we have a new player for the playing index and if we need to revise Glenelg Stats as well. Its hard to beleieve two people with the same first and middle name went to WW2 (different units) in the same era.

This is one of many new problems I have uncovered tyoing in players gameXgame for WAFC - I have now eneterd 1924-1944, 1990-2008 and 1897-1901. Many new players, new stats and I have included the 19th man for each game. Lots of changes to existing player stats to come
