Old Badge 1929-1930

Postby Reddeer » Sun Oct 19, 2008 12:39 pm

Can anyone help with an enquiry received regarding a sporting medallion that has been discovered in Darwin with the inscription
"LBA ALLIANCE SENIOR CUP RUNNERS UP 1929-1930 WOODVILLE F.C. T JARVIS"
With the date covering two years it may be related to cricket, but the Woodville F C is of interest.

Don't they also play their footy season at the same time as the cricket season in Darwin? If so that'd mean it could be related to cricket or footy.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

I was wondering if they have/had a Woodville Football Club in Darwin.

Reddeer - FWIW it has another point of interest in that none of the SANFL clubs issued member's badges between 1927 and 1935, and in 1936 badges were issued again to mark the state's centenary year. The interest is that this badge was issued in a period when the SANFL did not issue badges. I always thought it may have had something to do with hard times, but wherever this badge emanated from perhaps it was a 'special' issue?

according to footypedia Woodville have been around since 1877, but they are not sure if that one was the same club that entered the SANFL

and further to this ... every club had the word "Centenary" on thier badges except North Adelaide.
I don't know why :?
