Visitors to this forum may be familiar with John Devaney's website, http://www.fullpointsfooty.net - possibly the most informative football history site on the web. Now John has made some of his research and writing available in book form. The Full Points Footy Encyclopedia of Australian Football Clubs is the recently published first of a series of books that John is planning on the history of Australian football.
Every true devotee to the game of Australian Rules Football shouldn't be without a copy of this Encyclopedia of Australian Football Clubs. The book provides detailed historical information about each of the clubs to have played in all of the major state leagues across Australia - VFL-AFL, SANFL, WAFL, VFA, the three major Tasmanian leagues, and even the ACT, NT, QLD and NSW leagues are all included in this book.
John's love of the game was fostered when living in Australia in the 1960's - he has since lived in the UK for nearly 40 years. Perhaps being absent from Australia for much of that time has helped John retain a truly Australia-wide perspective of our great game that sets him apart from most of today's national media. It is evident in John's writing that he doesn't believe that the only football history of national relevance is that of the VFL-AFL. Whether you follow Carlton or Collingwood, or Norwood or Glenelg, or East Fremantle, or even Glenorchy, the Encyclopedia gives a detailed statistical summary of the achievements of each club - including premierships won, medallists, highest scores, top goalkickers etc. Perhaps the real beauty of the book though is the detailed written account given to each club - all written in John's engaging style that celebrate's our great games history. SANFL lovers, for instance, will appreciate that there are 14 pages devoted to Norwood, 10 to North Adelaide, 12 to Sturt, and 11 to Glenelg - to name just a few. The book is 700 pages crammed with football facts and great reading. The fact that John has developed such a great knowledge of the history of our game whilst living on the other side of the world is truly remarkable. He is one of the game's most eminent historians.
I have to recommend this book to all lovers of the history of Australian Rules Football.

The second in John's series of books has also been published - it is entitled Full Points Footy's WA Football Companion . In October or November, the third book in the series, Full Points Footy's SA Football Companion will be released. It will be an A to Z on South Australian football history, with entries on clubs, famous players, coaches, umpires and administrators. I can't wait for that book to be released.
