Monday's Advertiser "should" have individual player's stats for the previous Saturday.

Not gonna find out his 1992 Magpie stats on Adelaide Now I wouldn't think.. more interested in his average touches for the year. From memory it was definitely in the 30's.

Ask him.

I recall at the time he used to keep his own stats while playing so he could talk to his old man about it.

One good stat about Buckley is that he played in 2 losing grand finals, got a dubious norm smith medal. if he stayed at Brisbane he would have played in 4 grand finals and at least 3 winning grand finals. good decision Nathan.

The Yearbook from 1993 says he had 525 kicks, 177 marks and 135 handballs. This is over 24 matches (night match stats aren't included in the tallies in this book), which gives an average of 27.5 posessions per match.

Thats why he's such a good kick, he hated handballing.
Apparently the year he won his magarey that night at football park his team-mates on his table would ask him how he went in certain games, he would come back with his exact stats in all 22 games, their were rounds he also screwed his face up coz he didn't receive a vote when he thought he should have. Thats fair dinkum.
Told to me by a player that was on the table that night.

Some might say thats arrogance others will say that it is the attention to detail and desire to know yourself as an athlete that sets the champions aside from the also rans...

Timmy Ginever tells a story about Bucks during GF week.

Apparently, Bucks was telling everyone how he was gonna win the Jack Oatey Medal.

Timmy pulls him aside and let's him have it - the team and the premiership is more important than any medal.

"Of course, I wanna win the premiership," replies Bucks, reassuring Timmy.

"And win the Jack Oatey."

:D

A lot of people saw this as self-centred, and labelled him FIGJAM. I saw it as a guy who realised he was very above average in skills and decided to become as good as he could by squeezing everything out of himself. He's one player who would have retired knowing he left nothing behind. Sure, he never won a flag with Collingwood, but that was no fault of Buckley.

Nothing wrong with setting your sights on the Jack Oatey medal so long as you remain focussed on the team things.
